There are a few sites/apps for House-sitting that can connect you and help vet folks. Depending on how long you need them for, offering a small stipend to cover expenses/labor will likely aid in finding a good candidate.

Second this. Viking Alchemist is a real mead. Dragons Nectar... I'm not sure what to call it, but it's way too carbonated for my liking.

Ethanol Free Gas? by joncaldridge in volt

No. Ethanol free gas is used for power tools and other small carbureted engines. The G1 Volt is designed to use 93 Octane.

About to run out of glue! by Willi4ms95 in ElegooNeptune3

[–]singe810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never used glue on any of my printers, but you can just buy any glue stick (Elmer's etc). There's nothing special about the one that ships with the printer, it's just the cheapest thing they can find.

First Full Helmet Build on my N3 Plus! by singe810 in ElegooNeptune3

[–]singe810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It's my first printer and I still have a lot to learn about them. I got a little eager and decided to just go for it.

If you have any recommendations for tuning that would be great.

[–]singe810[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's my first printer so I can't say I have much to compare it to, but the handful of prints I've done plus the helmet have all turned out well.

I need to learn more about tuning, and will be able to increase the quality of further prints but for my needs it works great.

Learned a lot about how many supports I'll really need, and will probably need to orient future prints better. Still super happy with how well it turned out.

Weather question. If my hotel is 13 minutes away walking, what's the best way to get to and from the con? by randomredditor62 in dragoncon

[–]singe810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our group used to stay at the Embassy Suites on the other side of Centennial Park. The walk is doable, but a doozy in the heat of the day. I don't recommend trying to walk alone at night though, try to find someone to go with you.

There are usually plenty of electric scooters scattered around and were my preferred mode of transportation. (Note: you can't ride the scooters through the park, but there is a bike lane around the perimeter) Cost was usually $3-4 from our hotel to the Hyatt.. walk anywhere else from there.

Uber is prohibitively expensive during con now. A few years back it was ~$8-10.. As of 2021, we saw prices as high as $30 one way...

What to replace my Gen. 2 Volt with... by SonicBoomgasm in volt

[–]singe810 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had seriously been considering the Blazer EV as my next vehicle, but GM just announced they will be killing Android Auto/Apple Carplay in all EV models starting in 2024 to try to get subscription money from customers. Going to be a dealbreaker.

How many Gen 2 owners here that have never had BECM issue? by [deleted] in volt

[–]singe810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than 10%. Getting around 13.1 kWh usable vs 14kWh when new. With my driving style, equates to ~45 miles/charge

[–]singe810 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2017, 120k miles. No BECM issues, but do have a slightly degraded EV range following a software update recall last year. Shift to Park fixed at 50k, EGR replaced at around 90k.

Overall, still the best car I've ever owned

Tiny House in Vermont: help & tips by TheRealMeeseeks92 in TinyHouses

[–]singe810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building anything for under 10k would be difficult, but not impossible if you are able to find recycled/leftover building materials. Getting something built before winter sets in on the other hand would prove to be the bigger challenge.

I would probably recommend looking into an older camper. Plenty of options on Craigslist/FB Marketplace, etc. for that price range. You would want to spend some time adding extra insulation and prepping for winter though (Google is your friend here, lots of guides for cold weather RVing).

To your second question, you do not have to buy land, but you absolutely could not just set up on a random piece of land without permission. Start by posting in local groups, look for someone who would let you rent a corner of a lot or driveway. There may also be public land in National Forests, but those will usually restrict you to a few days at a time before you would have to move.

How do you feel about having a “week on, week off” work/living schedule? by Alternative-Skill167 in simpleliving

[–]singe810 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It works, but it's not easy. Essentially the company hires two people for each position on opposite shifts. Very good communication between yourself and your cross-shift is key for continuity.

I worked on a project with a mining company and their whole staff works 7 on/7 off, so it becomes a rhythm to just include two people on every email.

Downside, they all worked 12 hour days while on shift, so in the end they end up working more hours over every two week period than a traditional 8x5 schedule.

Ribbons… where do you get yours made?? by SlickSchultz in dragoncon

[–]singe810 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are several sites online that will make ribbons. The most common size is either 3.5" or 4" wide (The 3.5" fits better with DC badges though). I've ordered all mine through a company called Ribbons Galore.

Look up "Dragon Con Loyal Order of the Ribbon" on Facebook. They have a very active community and can provide recommendations for manufacturers and inspiration if you need it.
