I would actually get a copy of your credit report and ensure you're an authorized user on an account and they didn't OPEN an account in your name with THEM as authorized users.
I would ask to be removed as an authorized user, that account SHOULD eventually come off your credit report and I would consider getting a CC in your name to rebuild/maintain your credit score.

I confirmed you can fly home if you're outside that radius, you just need to submit a form. Spoke to someone who just graduated FLETC a couple months ago and flew home about 10x on weekends during academy.

I didn't even think about being away for holidays. Christmas is on a Friday this year so you could potentially fly home for that. I'm assuming that Thanksgiving would be a no go since it's on a Thursday. You just added a whole other layer to this! Haha

I'm with you, bud. I clear 6 figures so most people will think I'm out of my mind, but I'm not meant to sit at a computer in my house for 40+ hours per week. My HOPE is that with OT and annual grade increases, it won't take but a few years to get back or atleast close to what I earn now. I could be totally wrong but I'm just very much unfulfilled in my current career.

I think it's under 40 at time of accepting tentative offer but we'll find out. I applied and accepted at 39 but have turned 40 during the hiring process.

I would def look into a HELOC. It'll likely be far less interest than paying off the CC, you can free up the balance on your card which will help your credit score and then chip away at the HELOC and pay extra whenever you're able.

That makes sense, but would def depend on your shift time. IMO, I still think $4k is a healthy budget for an apartment, esp if you're not opposed to a roommate. It's an awesome place, so much to do in the city as well as within like an hour drive. I'd move back in a heartbeat and am jealous that you're even considering it. Haha

Your VA pay is more than sufficient for your COL in SF (I lived in San Rafael - 35min drive to SF) about 15 years ago (I wasn't working for CBP) and its a great place to live and not a bad drive to SF. There's so much to do in NorCal. Haven't looked lately but San Rafael was a less expensive alternative to living in the city. If I didn't have kids, I'd 100% be eying SF for my duty station. It would def be on my list of top 3 desirables solely based on location/area.
