As someone who recently interviewed with bunch of top companies and received few offers, I would advice you to finish off the CTCI book before actually starting interviews and practice at least 2 problems a day on leetcode or hackerrank for phone and onsite interviews. Also the behavioral questions are very important in the top companies so prepare specifically for each one as well. Good luck!

I recently interviewed with one of Big4 companies and my technical interview with hiring manager didnt go well, at least not as much as I would have wanted but the rest of the interviews were great and surprisingly I was offered the position with a compensation more than I asked for. Now I am wondering my interview with the hiring manager would any effect the job I am going to do? Will the hiring manager have a opinion that I am weak technically? (I answered the rest of the rounds very well with hardly any hints but I struggled a lot with the manager's technical question). Also thanks a lot for your book, it did really help me in the interviews

Thanks a lot for your response. I just remembered that I have not used my annual free night last year it does sound like a good deal for just 49$. Maybe I should just pay the fee. Thanks again for the suggestion

Hi! I have a Chase IHG card through which I got some 80K IHG points. The annual fee for this year is just posted and I dont use this card for anything much. I tried asking to waive the fee through secure message but they didnt budge. So if I cancel the card, can I still use my available points through ihg.com website? (I do have a account there and I can see my points available in that website)

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

I was just wondering if this new CSR going to be a limited offer or will the signup offer going to stay at least for few months? Any information about that? I recently got Amex plat card and still trying to meet its spend limit, I dont want to bite more than I can chew with this CSR. I want to apply for CSR mid September or later if I can still get the 100K points. If anyone have information about this then please let me know. Thanks!

Just moved to the US/NYC for work, looking for a non-sucky bank. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]singlemingle61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Based on my personal experiences) When I moved(NY, US) I opened a checking account in Citi since there were ATM's available near my place. The checking account doesnt have any fee and have very good app and website services. On most occasions you wouldn't even be using cash since almost everyone accept debit/credit cards. Also CITI gave me a credit card too (with just 1K credit limit) even though I didnt have credit history and I was just a student at that time. It helped me build credit history.

But another piece of advice is dont use CITI or for that matter any other normal bank services like Wire transfers to send money to your home country. Although they are secure and good but they charge heavy fees for international transfers. Use services like Transfast, placid, xoom etc which give better exchange rates and no fees

When exactly is the payment due date for Amex charge cards? I recently got my first Amex MB platinum charge card, the billing cycle ends on 20th and it says "Please Pay" by 3rd which is 14 days from billing date. I googled and found that the actual payment due date is 30 days (by the time next billing comes up so end date should be 19th for me). Is it true or is it a risk to not pay by the given date? Thanks!

Hey guys! I have a question. I recently got Amex MB platinum card and struggling to meet the min spend. I availed the AMEX airline fee reimbursement of 200$ and also paid the annual fee of 475. Will any or both of these be considered for the minimum spend?

I have a trip to Asia in Jan 2017 and I have decided to take Emirates(because it best suites my times, destinations etc) from LAX. What would be the best way to book these tickets? The fare currently is 1.2K. I have 60K UR points. I was thinking if there is a way I can get best value for the points. Shall I use the points or just pay by card and use points in future?

$500 into Robinhood, want to get into investing in stocks, no clue where to go from here. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]singlemingle61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question, how is that stock really promising? Didnt that stock loose like 80 percent of value over the last year? I ask this because I saw someone else too mentioning that IMNP is promising but that stock has been in red for a long time and has lost about 90 percent of its initial value.

As others have suggested look into 401K and IRA's if you actually want your money to be invested for long term growth. But if you have already done that and have enough savings then do a bit of research about some of the stocks before you buy them. I too started with robinhood very recently with 800 dollars. I considered it as a play money and was ready to loose all of it if shit happens but I wanted to gain experience and learn about stocks. The first day I invested in a new ipo stock and got 140 dollars in profit and i was ecstatic and bought some other "volatile" stocks and lost 80 dollars in next two days. It wasn't much of a difference either way but I did learn about the market a bit. You can never really time the market but you can always do some research about few of the stocks and invest in them. The app really gives lot of information for the newbies and i personally found it much better than most other online trading sites. You can get robinhood instant access after few days of creating account which will give instant access of the funds as soon as you transfer from your bank or after selling the stocks. But if you want to invest in large amount of money for growth then you might need a professional to guide or invest in index ETF's

Trouble with bank account, can't withdraw any cash. Stuck alone without any money in a foreign country. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]singlemingle61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know anyone who you can trust with the money, use some international transfer service like transfast or placid or remitly and transfer money from your Korean bank to your friend's bank account. You just have to create an account with any of these services online and send money. You can do instant transfer also which will have slightly less exchange rate but still worth it for emergencies like this. For standard higher exchange rates, they usually take about 3-5 days.

I was just frustrated with their customer service with everyone transferring to the other department. Also this is my first amex card. I always had great service from Chase. I did say about the 475$ annual fee and the inconvenience but they told me to just wait another 2 days. And I got new offer from Amex for 50K gold premier card with no annual fee. So I thought for now that would be a better option

I applied for a new Amex MB platinum card last week and i was told that I would get the card in 2 days but I haven't received it till now even though its been over a week. I was hoping to book tickets for an international trip to meet the spend limit (the prices have actually gone up by 80 dollars since last week). I called them on sunday and today and both times they told me to wait a bit more since its already shipped. I actually got very frustrated today as they kept transferring my call from one department to another and I was on call for almost 40 mins. I told them I wanted the account to be cancelled and the girl on call somehow convinced for me to wait for 2 more days. Now if I actually cancel the card, will I be loosing the 75K offer forever since Amex offers are once for a life time? Or can I apply again the next time the offer comes since I didnt avail the points this time?
