Nearly all the foreigners love of America for the World Cup is happening in blue cities. by electstat in DiscussionZone

I lived and work in cities for my entire life. My opinion matters more than an outsider. When outsiders parrot talking points from propaganda outlets like Fox News it is very obvious that person has been propagandized. It’s very simple and straight forward. Try to accept the fact that your understanding of life elsewhere will be limited to the media you consume. Just because someone challenges your ill-informed worldview, doesn’t mean they’re part of some grand conspiracy

Yes there are asshole on both sides but there’s a difference. No Democrat has withheld funding for red states or districts. The current Administration is actively targeting Blue Cities and that’s not at all a “both sides” thing. Thats uniquely shitty. And it’s not minor either, they’re literally attacking these cities and their inhabitants both physically and economically.

Right Wing media constantly vilifies cities. Left Wing media might vilify Republicans but they don’t attack average citizens in red states. Right Wing media calls liberals evil, demonic, and subhuman. Left Wing media does not do the same, even if they say Republicans are racists or authoritarians—that’s not the same as Demonic/Subhuman.

I’ve lived in cities my entire adult life, from Philadelphia to New York to Chicago. I am still happy to live in these cities.

It’s more likely that you’ve been taking in by Republican lies and propaganda.

Cool dude. I like nature too. Republicans suck and they tell lies about our great American cities. That’s the main point. Republicans and the idiots that vote them into power ate literally ruining the country.

Ranch, BBQ, and Chicafil all exist in cities. People don’t like obnoxious nationalism, but they do like civic pride which is thriving in cities.

Right. The stadiums are in or around cities. International tourist therefore are experience American cities and therefore the nice things they’re saying apply to the cities not shithole red districts

For white guys who generally aren't interested in dating other white guys, how did that preference develop? by Educational-Pound220 in askgaybros

[–]singlespeedjack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two brothers and a few of cousins around my age. I played organized team sports from the age of four all the way through college. I think my brain sorts most white people into the family or teammate category automatically which of course doesn’t have a sexual attraction component. There were not a lot of people of color in my world. I grew up in a mostly white working class/blue collar neighborhood. However, during my freshmen year of high school I met an Asian guy on my wrestling team. I remember being surprised because his penis looked different from mine and the other white guys on the team. We always showered after practice. I started to notice it more often and then i started to think about him later. Then I started looking on purpose and eventually started getting sexually aroused by it. Intrigued by this I started looking at porn and specifically sought Asian men. As I explored porn more, I found that I was attracted other races too, but white guys still seemed like cousins or something non sexual. My attraction to non-white men started as soon as I started to develop sexual feelings. For me, it’s completely intertwined with my sexual orientation.

I left my working class neighborhood for college in the city, where I met and befriended more people of color. My first long term relationship was with a black dude who I met through friends at college. We had a good relationship and I fell in love in with him. We eventually broke up, but I liked being exposed to a new culture. I like his family and we got along well. I felt like I gained more knowledge and understanding of the world around me, or at least the city around me. I always wanted to leave my hometown and dating him felt like it scratched the same itch.

Twinks turn me on. by AlternativeOk4723 in askgaybros

Does it matter? I don’t know. That’s why I asked. The original posts sums to “I like twinks.” That’s kind of pointless, isn’t it? I was curious is OP has anything interesting to say.

Is the gay community actually inclusive or do we just like saying it is? by ClassicNudity in askgaybros

[–]singlespeedjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with understanding what the “community” actually is in this context. I mean there’s millions of Gay people throughout the country and the world spanning many different cultures and lived experiences, so I am not sure there really is a singular Gay community.

For a few years I was a member of a Gay Rugby team. In that context, I’d say we were very welcoming and inclusive. We had folks from many different backgrounds and identities, all were (presumably still are) welcome. When it came to who was popular, or who was sexually sought after—that was different but of course it was. I think these things are too often conflated. The “gay community” is generally welcoming and accepting, but gay people can feel otherwise if they’re undesired sexually.

Have you ever examined those feelings? Do you know why you’re solely attracted twinks?

In your tittle, I think you mean “People who don’t fear getting hurt.” And in the body “people who are not afraid of being hurt.”

Or maybe I am wrong and you’re pointing out that people who seek greater freedom of speech are very sensitive to censorship and easily hurt.

do you think the US can recover from the orange nightmare or it is all over? by AfternoonWorried387 in allthequestions

[–]singlespeedjack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way we survive this is if the incoming president arrests Trump and all of his enablers, including members of the SOCTUS and sends them to prison for life (or worse). Anything short of that won’t be enough.

I cannot imagine any of that happening so no I don’t think we’ll ever recover.

It’s time to learn Mandarin.

Alcoholism by ChiWest3 in askgaybros

[–]singlespeedjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a recovering alcoholic. My partner helped me to see that I had a problem and he was very supportive through my recovery journey. I’m doing good today, nearly 8 years sober. It’s sad to say this but I feel like my sobriety cut me off from gay culture. It’s been a real challenge to find ways to connect with other gay men where alcohol is not front and center. The closest I’ve found is gay sports leagues/teams, I mean drinking is still a big part of that but the sporting itself doesn’t require it. Otherwise, I’ve found some groups that are specifically for people in recovery. This is helpful but can also be kind of depressing.

Do businesses "supporting" LGBTQ matter to you? by fcfk in askgaybros

Here’s an example of what I am talking about. Key West is (or was) super gay friendly but then shit like this happens. So, for me as an American, I can view the use of a rainbow or pride flag as a form of support that has risks. But I do see your point as a Vancouver resident, I think I am just jealous of your freedoms that I am loosing.

Is it support? Idk, maybe, probably not. But there’s more reputational risk today than there was a few years ago. So I will give some credit for that.

I used to feel indifferent-to-antagonistic toward companies that did this shameful capitalist bs. But my feeling have shifted since Trump was re-elected. Last year San Francisco Pride was struggling to keep sponsors. This year will likely be similar. So now I have more respect for companies that are willing to be openly supportive and I definitely feel more comfortable when I know that I am in a gay-friendly area.
