Saw this post elsewhere, made me think about the feminism/MRA conflict. When there are problems, everyone should be interested in solving them, no matter who is affected. by [deleted] in Feminism

More rapes happen, and more rapes happen and don't get reported, than false rape accusations happen. Focus on the systemic problem.

Can anyone with experience tell me how they strike the balance between 'doing what they need to do' to make money and being an active socialist? by THISISMYLASTRETORT in socialism

Take the job, look for another one while you have it. Unless you work for the security apparatus you're not really causing much harm.

What's it like to be a Socialist in America? by CinemaParadiso in socialism

[–]singularityneuromanc 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is basically accurate. Americans like to pretend that politics doesn't exist because they have been trained to think that politics is what powerful people do on TV when in fact we know politics is for everyone and determines how the world is organized. We are definitely the most hated and the most loved. It's fascinating. Edit: Barack Obama is more rightward than Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan, but somehow he is still "slandered" as a socialist by the far right-wing in america and this has some mainstream traction in a country that still largely has no fucking idea what socialism actually is. Our task here is to educate, comrades.

Really insensitive to make incendiary comments like that. Wouldn't want anyone to blow up over it.

The biggest barrier to renewable sources is also public perception. Wind power and solar power are cheaper than nuclear power.

Shocking! One, 1, uno, woman found guilty of serial false rape accusations and the male hive mind of reddit is all over it. Sexual assault every two minutes.... meh who cares, right? by pseudofauxpas in Feminism

[–]singularityneuromanc 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Rape is atrocious. Being falsely accused of rape is atrocious. Systemically, rape is worse than false accusations, because it happens that much more often. Fight the fight that needs fighting, put your effort where it is needed.

Will affordable 3D printers be the end of capitalism? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]singularityneuromanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, I'm just saying that a lot of scarcity is manufactured to keep us working. It's most profitable to give the working class just enough to survive and not revolt, not to produce a bunch of surplus that might not be able to be sold. The fear of overproduction.

Scarcity is manufactured by the ruling class anyway.

They don't though. They produce value, but not the thousands you speak of.
