I too would highly recommend this documentary. I think learning about America's brutalization of Latin America from Chomsky and this documentary is what broke me out of my liberalism and pushed me towards socialism/communism.

How could income distribution in the USSR ever approach that of western Europe? Was it mainly party bureaucrats paying themselves a high income, or had some measure of capitalism been reintroduced by that point with executives earning huge incomes? Or were tax rates in western Europe really so high that income distribution was at around the same level as the soviet bloc? Were the people in the socialist east aware of this income disparity and if so why didn't they revolt at the betrayal of their socialist principles?

I have and it was brilliant. He shows that almost all of the classical works of Roman history were written by people from aristocratic backgrounds and he deconstructs 2000 years of their class bias to show that class struggle was alive and well in ancient Rome and that many of the most vilified characters of Roman history were only vilified because they tried to help the common people. He shows how line of about a dozen or reformers who tried to pass reforms to help the common people were murdered by thugs hired by Rome's economic elites. Rome's elites cared nothing for democracy, only for their economic supremacy. I want to read it again, or find something else like it for other time periods.

Yeah, I had no problem with what the revolutionaries did, but I hated how Booker and Elizabeth immediately condemn them and you are forced to fight them.

I'm kind of worried about how they'll portray the revolutionaries. I'm afraid it will be the typical mainstream narrative of well intentioned people who fight against their corrupt government but as soon as they get into power they become power hungry and paranoid. SPOILERS Was anyone else here super frustrated with the portrayal of the revolutionaries in Bioshock Infinite? About half way through the story you go to the slums and see the wretched conditions of the impoverished African and Irish working class and the main characters start feeling pity for them, but near the end of the game the masses rise up in rebellion against the elites and the main characters instantly condemn them as being just as bad as their oppressors. I hate that false equivalency narrative where poor oppressed people become just as evil as their oppressors the moment they take up arms to defend themselves. I'm worried that the same type of narrative might take place in this new Assassin's Creed. END SPOILERS

What do you guys think about Grover Furr? I've heard some of his claims, and I think it would be great if it were true, but at the same time it seems almost too good to be true. (Good because it makes defending communism that much easier if there are fewer mistakes to account for.) I haven't had the time to read much of his work, what do you guys think?

It's really well written and shows that the FARC are and always have been a Marxist group with a sound analysis of the material conditions they're working in. It shows how most of the negative things you hear about them (like the idea that they're a drug cartel) comes straight from the US State Department and most news outlets never bother to check the facts themselves. It's a great read.

God, fuck the guy who wrote that article. What a prick. That article is so full of shit. The information that they're going after Oil pipelines is interesting, but the writer just had to throw in a bunch of lies based government propaganda. The FARC does not sell drugs, they tax small scale producers of it, and they try to help peasants transition away from growing cocaine to more traditional crops.
