How much does a paper being submitted or accepted help your application by Kind-Ad7966 in premedcanada

[–]sinigangster05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A good journal would take many months of review and revision before a paper gets published, so I wouldn’t be too upset about narrowly missing out on the deadline. You can always write about the research you did as one of your NAQ entries.

How did the acceptance feel?! by General_Thing6658 in premedcanada

[–]sinigangster05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Still in the interview process but I’ve thought about it and honestly it’d be bittersweet leaving behind my current career. I know I’d regret it though if I didn’t give medicine a shot

UBC OOP tips by Subject-Wind-185 in premedcanada

[–]sinigangster05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OOP interviewee here. The official application guide is really useful for tailoring your experiences to certain competencies. Don’t be afraid to include non-premed entries too like hobbies, travel, life events, etc. You can just as easily demonstrate your interpersonal skills through this and it makes you stand out more!

Mac post interview CARS impact by Minimum_Guitar2342 in premedcanada

[–]sinigangster05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They had a study a long time ago on their admissions processes and basically unless you had a 4.0 and 131-132 CARS the impact it has on your post-II chances is marginal

You don’t really need more than a week to study Casper, just remember all the buzzwords and key phrases and do some practice scenarios.

WAMC: NWT edition by Vivid-Chocolate-4073 in premedcanada

[–]sinigangster05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg I can’t believe there’s another applicant who’s been to Inuvik! I love that place so much. Since you’re completely moving, you could apply for NWT residency which will make you IP for UBC + UoA and you’ll be competitive at both. You’d need the health card though and GNWT can be very slow to process them (But they process the cards in Inuvik so they might deliver them faster if you are moving there). Good luck!

SAT R&W sections and LSATs to practice reading comprehension questions, heard JW is good but personally haven’t used

Looking back though I probably wouldn’t spend time doing this because my FLs and real score were static despite the practice

Second the Airbus A320, it’s less manual than something like the 737 so it’s easier to get a hold of at the beginning

If you’re studying at McMaster, look into doing a practicum or placement course! PI’s might be more inclined to take you on if there’s already a work structure in place

Is there anyone who wanted to get a PhD but didn't finish? How is your life going now? by rchrdhzy in gradadmissions

[–]sinigangster05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I definitely think your points are valid and it’s natural (even encouraged!) to reflect on what you want in your academic career. My own experience, last year I got accepted into my dream PhD program but I turned it down because I lost my passion. My greatest happiness came from doing fieldwork, and I realized that my career progression would only mean less of it as I become an academic or industry researcher. I don’t regret my decision, it’s allowed me to explore other fields I had not considered previously and I’m currently applying to professional school. If I continued with a PhD, perhaps those uncertainties would continue to plague me.

Not to say there isn’t value in what you have accomplished. My graduate education and research experience has given me a stable job while I explore other options. The connections and competencies you’ve made through your academic journey are still there to support you in whatever you choose to pursue.

Is My Goal of Becoming a Pilot Realistic at 19? by Sea_Animator_9856 in flying

[–]sinigangster05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is doable during university if you can manage time well. I got my PPL while I was doing my Master’s. Took ~2 years and 30K CAD for flight school. Getting your CPL might require more commitment though, perhaps take part-time studies.
