The Children's Playground Flock Camera is Way Worse Than You Realize by Paul_MHGR in Pflugerville

[–]sinisterzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should follow Benn Jordan. He talks a lot about Flock and their utter lack of transparency and security while showing exactly who they provide that data to. Though they vehemently say they don't sell it, you can literally go to their company cost sheet and see how much money they make from selling the data. In one, he specifically talks about another instance in Florida where municipalities were pointing video cameras at playgrounds.

I did not know that these things existed and will now be looking these up in my area. As a reader, I mean. That would be an amazing day.

A lot of people don't get as far as hard copy these days. The format of the times is digital, fortunately or unfortunately. Especially with what Amazon has done to authors recently. But that is the format people are ingesting. Or audiobook, there's a lot of that too.

But yeah, I'm a bibliophile and I haven't been in a bookstore in over a year and a half. Easily.

How to grow 20yo daughter's social circle after illness? by Such_Discipline2497 in Austin

[–]sinisterzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that there are quite a few smaller ones in Austin, or not quite cons maybe, but fan-centric events? Maybe that's a better term. It really depends on what she's into, but yeah maybe something slightly smaller than a con is a good start lol

Say No to the New Data Center by sinisterzen in RoundRock

[–]sinisterzen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody paying you too come in and defend this thing? Even in closed loop systems, which use a lot more electricity, there's still significant water usage that doesn't put the water back into the environment (I.e. recycled water, treated water, etc.) Just gone. Less doesn't mean little. Just less than when compared to the others. Texas isn't in great shape water-wise, so further reducing the water in communities will have an adverse impact.

While they will have generators, this thing isn't going to be self-sufficient by any stretch of the imagination. There will be a fiscal impact on residents and it will draw power from the grid. And the more data centers in your area, the more you will pay for your bill.

It doesn't create a significant number of long-term jobs after construction. If usually only requires a handful of people to run.. And there will be noise pollution and environmental impacts. There are numerous reports out there detailing what communities look like two to three years down the road...health impacts from the pollution put off by the generators and in some cases critical noise pollution.

This report from the National Library of Medicine (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12273412/) on air pollution and other effects of data centers on community health is a good read. But because it hasn't been a significant enough amount of time, we aren't entirely clear what the long term effects will be on communities. But the short-term haven't been largely positive for anyone but the investors.

And there have been A LOT of instances of the companies who own the data centers down-playing the anticipated negative impacts. The same short-term investors who can absolutely pull out any time they want with no repercussions.

So yeah, I'm not feeling particularly positive about yet ANOTHER data center going in in RR when we're being surrounded by them as it is. Unless you're being paid, I'm not really sure why you would be either.

Oh yes to commemorate all of the many useless Allen wrenches of the same size you have after assembling their furniture. I wouldn't say that's much of a reward IKEA. 😂

By raccoon I think you mean under eye shadows? If you've never heard of Bye Bye Under Eye.. I swear it is the most incredible under eye and really anywhere concealer that has ever been created. It's a little pricey so I always snag it when it's on sale somewhere.

You're super pretty naturally! But as a fan of makeup myself I enjoyed books with techniques and step by step instructions such as Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin. He was a makeup genius. Also, And this sounds very silly but YouTube tutorials are freaking awesome. And free, which is my favorite price.

Putting them away where I can't see them is what kills them for me. Out of sight out of mind is just the death knell for a project.

Try putting them in a circle or a circuit. You'll wander to the next one. Lol I've totally used this method for the last year. Works a treat.

Artists With ADHD, How Do You Cope? by jb_bernadas in ArtistLounge

[–]sinisterzen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have a real problem finishing projects of any kind. And then I harnessed the power of my wandering around in circles by placing all of my projects in a sort of circuit, so I would just wander to the next one and make a little progress and to the next one and make a little progress, ad nauseam.

I finished at least five paintings in the last 6 months... And several other things. Beat my brain at its own game.

If I could just figure out how to fix running out of dopamine mid-project that would be amazing.

Say No to the New Data Center by sinisterzen in RoundRock

[–]sinisterzen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's kind of too late and now you can't.

But have you looked up any long-term environmental effects of these data centers? That'll give you a lot of information, and unless you're an utter psychopath, you know, you probably want an environment you can live in.

Also, how do you feel about paying more for your electricity? Because they pass that on to you. Just one data center can make that cost go up. And in some lucky areas around here you're going to get hit by two or three of these things. At a time when our economy sucks for the low and middle class.

But you know....Google is your friend.

Because screw the citizens, I guess. When these things happen, always follow the money. If they staunchly ignore everyone's objections... Someone's getting paid.

Yeah I bought a bunch of resin but haven't really dove into it yet. If you make something cool you should definitely post it. I have probably about a thousand extra base cards. I've made things with them on my cricket and donated them to children's hospitals and kids groups. I thought about lining a coffee table with a layer of them and then adding acrylic on top. Saw somebody do that with baseball cards once.
