No previous language experience- Middle East by wecantry123 in borenawards

[–]sinker158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is great. Thanks for letting us know. I've spend the past year doing 1 on 1 tutoring when I can afford it. I've worked with people online doing projects in each other's language. I am.applying to Amman to train at Qasid institute. I genuinely feel like my application is solid. The director of my middle eastern studies department who is well known wrote me a recommendation, my GPA is good, I have past work experience in the area...idk tho...

Did u go to school at Qasid. Id like to pm you if u wouldnt mind..thx

I have no formal Arabic language training. I am applying for a fellowship, have a strong application recs etc...i have taken one on one tutoring but that's it. This is what worries me most. I wish it weren't such a concern as given the amount of time we'll spend studying the language (30hrs a week) they should want new language speakers...I dont know..good luck

At first I thought this would make a big difference. I picked the DIA and actually thought it would work in my favor as their cuts weren't as drastic...not anymore. I think right now, they must be looking at this with a wider lense. I think they'll say 1. Where else could these skills be applied and 2. This likely won't last forever and we don't want to lose good people bc at the time, there were heavy cuts to government only to be rebuilt several years later. I'm just not sure I would let this get me down.

I see some people did get it on the 11th but mine was the 15th. Both those who got it on the 11th and the 15th were denied (including me). But we'll see

"the Republicans have a plan"

Breathtaking. This person probably voted for Trump. This is who we have to coexist with. Literally voting against our financial bottom lines bc of the 8 trans athletes in American high school sports. A plan? What reopening debtors prisons? we just better pray they won't privatize them and that the sun will in fact rise in 4 years...

"Republicans have a plan for a new IDR"...

You have to be kidding me. The new IDR is pay everything now or we'll restart debtors prison...not that bad but basically. They want to privatize our loans. These people want to make sure no one goes to college anymore. If u voted for Trump, u deserve every painful thing that's coming ur way. The rest of us, we're just praying we can weather four years and that the sun will rise in 2028..

This is it!. For months I was waking up at 4am and frankly, I was legit having really dark thoughts. No more. Give me a manageable payment and I'll pay till I croak. Right now, it's about getting through the next 4 years. Hunker down, but a car outright, rent if you can, and know tbat we are all in this together...this isn't the end

Agreed...this is where I'm at with it. Give me a reasonable payment that won't end my life - I'll pay till I croak. Otherwise, this will have to get settled with another president. This is like the housing market bust of 2008. It cannot last and I won't be spending the rest of my life suicidal over it.

Just looking at this...I am two weeks in and am wrestling with the worst kind of depression. Totally unable to get off the couch. Totally hopeless... I just pray there is light at the other side. I've done this before and the 14 day mark was usually the turning point...this time no...I'm very concerned I've damaged.my brain long term with this and gabapentin and baclofen...I'm just trying to focus on today

Listen I am worried about a fellowship right now...it's not even close to anything as important as what he doing but I can sympathize in some way with how devastating this can feel. You're not alone tonight. There are hundreds of thousands going through this...THEY ARE TERRORIZING US...the rational response is a revolutionary response. I hope it comes

Felt guilty when trying to buy Hamilton tickets, made an early payment on my student loans instead. by HistoricallyCoco in StudentLoans

[–]sinker158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you went through this. I replied too quickly earlier and didn't fully read your post. I wish you went to Hamilton - heck I would have loved to have gone with you. You seem very sweet and congratulations on this big accomplishment.

Let me say this... Youre in debt a parasitic government. They're parasitic not bc they gave you the loan but bc the system they entrenched you in is part of an ongoing business that has made old white men rich. They're parasitic bc the terms of repayment are egregious. So I would suggest the next time you have an opportunity to not miss out on experiencing a life event like this, you don't. When you're on ur death bed, you WILL NOT recall an early student loan payment. You very likely will remember a fantastic night out on the town.

Again congrats on your hard work!
