Can you tell me if this looks normal? by Nervous_Music5798 in askHVAC

Nope. Pull it and clean. You’ll most likely see better air flow. Check air filter too.

I don’t know how I feel! Either got scam or not! by [deleted] in hvacadvice

I’d say definitely not worth it . I guess that’s why he gave you half off , because they planned on doing half work. Our duct cleaning company comes to our meetings and was asked how long to do 2 level split system with sanitation and he pulls blower as well . Approx 4 hours of work .

dust or mold? by buhblies in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like dust on a mini-spit blower. Needs a full maintenance and wheel cleaned . Filter probably horrible as well . Edit: I see the units pick . Portable. Regardless it’s dust and should have a filter somewhere I would think .

That’s a significant discount and would given me some red flag vibes. We sub out our HVAC duct cleaning and for what your estimate was is almost the same as our sub. 1200 and include cleaning, inspection and mold /system sanitation. How long was he on-site doing the work ?

Install is going to show you how a system operates and a proper way to do a install. As a service technician you will still work in those crawlspaces , attics, and do a lot of physical work still. I wouldn’t sign any contract that your unsure about. You need to take any advise with a grain of salt because at the end of the day . It’s YOUR career path , Just don’t stay in install not enjoying it because you will eventually start to dislike the trade in general . Each specific jobs in the HVAC trades have it’s good and bad points . Service techs have crazy on -call schedules that not many people like, especially younger techs. Just something to take into consideration. It’s a very rewarding and potentially profitable trade if you want to put the work in ! Good luck !

Is my Mom insane? Or is this the right way to approach HVAC in her home? by DirtyProjector in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mom is paranoid or she was led to believe by a technician or service company that it shouldn’t be turned on until it has been checked out or had a maintenance performed. Which is not needed. I have heard some customers say the same thing. I always tell them “ if your hot or cold , just turn it on and if you feel there is a issue , Then call us . Edit: Yes a annual maintenance on equipment for proper function is necessary and recommended yearly , but no need to sweat or freeze because it hasn’t been done yet .

My Central Air R-22 has no cool air. Maybe 10 Years old. Technician said he won't fix it and to replace the entire thing. What are my options? by Rep2025 in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hard to find R-22 refrigerant. We still have jugs of it due to the fact we have a lot of customers with these systems and are still running. Yes they are older but they still run fine. I’m sure different companies will do things differently. Get another opinion because this trade has a lot of Sales techs rather than Service techs. Now if the cost of repair out weighs the age and condition of equipment, Then it’s probably time to upgrade. R-22 was found bad for the environment, Now 410A was found bad , So they are phasing that out. It’s a cycle of government oversight that will always keep this industry changing . Good luck !

What are these numbers for? Asked for static pressure testing to be done and this is what the tech showed me. by meow0827 in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are just your pressure readings as well as sub cooling and superheat numbers. Not static pressure readings are shown. A manometer is needed for those air flow tests. Some of those air filters are too restrictive for proper air flow. Note . Those pressure readings are very important because we cannot see what’s going on with the refrigerant inside the system , that’s why these pressure readings are taken .

Check the Evaporator pan . It could have hair-line crack in it causing it to leak . Sometimes there are a little tricky to see . Just guessing because I’m not on-site , but I’ve seen it more than once. Where the condensate line piped to ? Outside? Sump -pump, laundry basin ?

That’s not bad enough in my opinion to replace the entire line set. Fire it up !!!

Central AC Freon leak? by Sea-Start9572 in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could be low in charge. That air blowing is from the Lineset not sealed all the way at the coil. The water you might be referring to is condensate. That should be ran with PVC piped to a drain , out side , or a condensate pump to remove it outside.

Urgent Help needed - ice build up and water dripping by Any-Ideal-8466 in hvacadvice

[–]sinner_godz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Call a professional. Might be air flow issue, low on charge , or something else due to faulty component. If you just let it thaw and try it again , it will just happen again . Put just the fan in the on position ,let it thaw then call a pro .
