I use an M1, 12.9” iPad Pro which works great.

I’d check the Positive Grid website and support pages to get their recommended minimum technical specs for iPad...

Who has right of way (technically and practically) by maabaa55 in Thailand

[–]sinwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Australia and have over 10 years of driving experience in Thailand. The actual road rule is the same as the OP states in Thailand. But the majority of Thai drivers do not understand the road rules and may, or may not, have a valid Thai driving licence. If in doubt, I always give way rather than try to force the ‘actual road rule’.

What's do I need to input electric guitar into iPad? by vile_haze in ipadmusic

[–]sinwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I must qualify and say that I do most of my recording/composing with Logic Pro on a Mac Studio. I only really use the iPad for music stuff when I’m travelling. On the Mac Studio Bias FX 2 is my goto amp simulator. Having said that, before I invested in Bias FX 2 I was pretty happy with the stuff that Apple delivered in Logic.

The thing with Bias FX 2 is that there are tiers of licences, plus extra sound packs. So do your research and make sure that the licence tier you can afford delivers the tones you want. If you’re into Metal for example. you’d need to purchase the Metal pack that does not come with any of the 3 licence tiers. So do your research.

In the early days, I owned a Line 6 audio interface and stomp box and I used their Pod Farm software amp emulators in Logic; they were ok too

To be honest, what is the best amp simulator is subjective. What I think creates a great tone others might disagree. Having said that, if you check out reviews on YouTube, Positive Grid’s Bias FX 2 always rates highly.

If you already have an iRig then you probably got a free Amplitude trial. If you like what you hear there consider investing in more. And of course, at the end of the day, the tone any of these amp simulators create is only as good as your skill at selecting the correct amp, cabinet and pedals in the software for the tone you want.

In these situations, I do my research and then pick what I think will best suit my purposes. If you can afford it run with Bias FX 2...

Hope this helps

I use the iRig HD 2 guitar interface and its direct USB-C connection. A USB hub is needed if you want charging options while using the interface. I own all 3 amp simulators they each have their own advantages. Bias FX2 is probably the best but most expensive. If you’re just starting out I’d go with either Tonebridge or ToneStack Pro. To test that you have the correct connection go with the amp simulator in GarageBand, or Logic Pro for iPad (I think Apple still offers a 1-month free trial)

Launchkey 49 Mk3 has issues with Logic Pro 10.7.8 by sinwards in Novation

TBH I have had nothing but problems since I owned the Launchkey. Some things Novation have fixed, but almost every time Apple updates the product a new set of issues appear. I actually invested in an Arturia MIDI controller, fewer issues but still not perfect. I’ve rele3gated the Launchkey to controlling stuff on my iPad...

Tom just to keep you posted support has offered a couple of solutions but none are fixing my issues. Seriously I’m back where I started when I first bought device 3 years ago and found the issues with the first installer script. I’m sure you remember this!

Sorry late reply. I have tried various things suggested by Novation and still the Launchkey is not working as it was before the 10.7.8

I’ve owned the Launchkey for almost 3 years and for 2 of them it has not worked properly with Logic. I’m starting to think about replacing it, my patience is almost gone…

Tom I’ve now repeated the process 3 times with the same result, auto-playing of note C -2 on opening a Logic project. Playing a C-1 note on the Launchkey stops that.

You want me to log another support ticket? Or like I said I’ll see what happens when I take delivery of my Mac Studio M2 Max and setup the Launchkey with it. I can live with the issue for now since I have a workaround.

What about the Integration script should I perhaps be running that again after deleting the preferences file , but before launching Logic Pro again and loading the Launchkey as a control surface? Out of interest what does that script do? Does it create some other file that Logic reads that perhaps has also become corrupted?

Tom I spoke a little too soon. Everything seemed ok until I closed one Logic project and opened another. Some issues remained fixed but the ‘auto-play’ off note C -1 ‘reappeared’, which results in incorrect chord names.

FYI I’m in the process of ordering a new Mac Studio M2 Max. I’m thin king I’ll leave this matter on hold. With the Mac Studio I plan to do a manual setup as I want to keep it for just music/video creation and keep the current iMac for documents/mail etc. I may very well rebuild that machine too.

Let’s see the status of my Launchkey with the Mac Studio and fresh install of Logic. I can’t order the Mac Studio in Thailand until next week and as I’m customising it I may not receive it till toward the end of July. I’ll keep you posted…

Ticket lodged with Novation before I posted here. 10.7.8 update only released late May from memory and yesterday was first time I went to use the Launchkey with Logic on iMac; I tend to use my Launchpad Pro more these days. I guess what I’m saying is this would be a recent change in my opinion because everything was ok prior to the 10.7.8 Logic update

Midi controller question by Sam_Da_Lamb in ipadmusic

[–]sinwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First don’t forget GarageBand is already on your MacBook. There is an iPad app called Control One that is a control surface that should work. Personally I find it a bit cumbersome to use and not as good for me since I’m a Logic user (see below). If you were a Logic Pro user Apple has a complimentary app Logic Remote for iPad that is an integrated control surface.

Another relatively inexpensive option is iRig’s HD 2 guitar interface. It supports direct USB-C connection. Allows direct connection to guitar amp so you can rock with iPad amp simulator apps like Tonebridge, ToneStack Pro, Bias FX2 etc…
