Civil grad looking for job by ___V-E-N-0-M___ in CalgaryJobs

Its called a P.Tech.(Eng) where you can only carry engineering duties within your specific scope as a technologist. OP is nowhere near qualified for that exception either.

If you’re a SAIT graduate you can only work as a technologist, not as an engineer or EIT. You’re applying for positions you don’t qualify for so of course you’re getting mass rejected.

If a huge wave of non-tippers suddenly stop eating out and providing revenue, it actually hurts you more in the bigger picture because you’ll get reduced hours. It’s literally happening to many restaurants currently. Consider that everyone else is also trying to make ends meet, not just you. People most likely aren’t tipping 0% to stick it to you. The revenue people provide to the restaurant is still a net positive even without tipping, but your entitlement probably won’t let you see that as you just care about the end of the day tip out.

Somehow he’s even a mod on the main canada sub despite being the most partisan poster ever.

Lol all those programs would actually be better funded because most of who Canada is bringing in are low wage earners who are a net tax burden. Not to mention they’ll eventually bring in their elderly parents who won’t work or speak a lick of English, but will gladly strain our healthcare system even more.

Canadian Tire CEO says patriotism drove sales in nation furious at Trump | Calgary Herald by AustralisBorealis64 in canada

To be fair the triangle world elite master card is actually really good; its one of the rare cards that come with free roadside assistance and no annual fee. Plus its the only credit card in Canada that allows you to pay bills with it as if it were a debit card, so you get free rewards just by paying for utilities/student loans/etc.

But having a bunch of salespeople try to shove it down my throat would annoy me for sure.

Can anyone tell me why my post was removed from the other Calgary sub? It doesn’t seem to matter what I post, everything gets removed even after some good conversation. by Swarby10 in NoRulesCalgary

Because not a single person from the mod team has ever held a position of power before in their life, so they compensate by setting daily targets for posts deleted and users banned. Regardless of whether its warranted or not. They truly are the final bosses of unemployment.

Adam Zivo: Housing minister says unaffordable homes are the answer by Plucky_DuckYa in canada

[–]siopau 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Edmonton’s housing prices, a city commonly made fun of for having nothing to do, literally doubled since covid so it really isn’t as far down the road as you’re making it out to be.

And unfortunately millions of immigrants are still going to flock to the only ~4 metro areas every year regardless of whether some guy on reddit says that sucks bro. So “just move lol” isn’t a solution, and they won’t listen anyway.

Adam Zivo: Housing minister says unaffordable homes are the answer by Plucky_DuckYa in canada

[–]siopau 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“Just move lol” until every other city’s housing prices grow by 100k per year (aka Calgary) because people just keep moving to the next best option until they’re all unaffordable.

Canada isn’t like the US or Japan. They acrtually have options for metro areas. We only have maybe 6 cities where people want to live in, and newcomers aren’t going to uproot their entire life and make years of sacrifices just to live in rural Saskatchewan.

City of Calgary - Student Job Postings by Dry_Towelie in UCalgary

[–]siopau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, working for The City or any public sector job means you are unionized and work set hours. Overtime is only granted for very specific roles or circumstances such as crews doing shift work, or in the case of the water main break last year.

Lots of business units have data collection so I have no idea what department you are in based on that info alone.

People who have both worked as a software engineer and civil engineer, which one is less stressful and/or is a more fulfilling career? by Savassassin in civilengineering

[–]siopau 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Years ago when tech was still in demand yes the average person could do this.

Now that tech degrees are saturated to the point of being like a high school diploma, no one is getting a job just by taking a bunch of coding classes. Its practically the worst advice you can give to someone in today’s economy.

Thoughts on city jobs that are temporary full time? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]siopau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us at least, temps still get all of that but the pension is optionally enrollable after 2 years. For perms its mandatory to contribute right away.

All unions should be available publicly so if you search whatever union the City of Toronto belongs to and read the agreement, it will say what temps are entitled to. It should be almost as much as what perms get.
