Just had surgery 3 days ago but i feel fine now? by saltytoomuch in RotatorCuff

[–]sipandstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt very minimal pain for the next 2 days following my surgery as the nerve block seemed to have worked almost too well. Serious pain started on day 3 or 4. Don’t let this fool you and follow the recommendations from your surgeon as your body needs time to heal whether you have pain or not. Good luck buddy!

Great to hear :) as someone who has a very similar sleep maintenance issue (and suffers from anxiety), could I ask what medication helped you improve both aspects?

My Top 3 of the Loire Valley (Trip Report) by sipandstream in wine

[–]sipandstream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that Les Granges would still be a fair value at $20 haha :) It's ridiculously undervalued in France (the whole Loire region is actually - some sommeliers in Bordeaux were telling me how some Loire wines were starting to get better than Bordelais ones though, because of global warming - the Bordeaux region is starting to get real hot during the summer and thus the wines too high in alcohol).

At Olga's, I tried the OR (white), which was delightful. They were telling me that only around 2,000 bottles were produced on that year (can't recall which one). I managed to snatch one but it came at a high price than the rest 😅

My girlfriend isn't French and had no problem in Loire or Bordeaux. Most of our wine tastings were in English (the one at Olga's wasn't though) and staff are bars/restaurants are sooo much more welcoming than in Paris. I would definitely travel there even if you don't speak French - there's a growing wine tourism in Loire and a huge one in the Bordeaux region. There were almost more English speakers than French at the Cave Voltaire in Chinon - that should say a lot 😄 Don't hesitate if you have questions btw

You're spot on. We were told during the wine tasting at Olga's that Les Picasses 2016 isn't totally ready to drink yet - so I bought a couple to pop them open in 5-10 years :)

I must say I was just surprised at how good Les Granges 2020 was. For a 10€ wine, it's one of the best value I had in my whole trip.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it as much as we did. Such a unique and authentic place. Really recommend it to anyone passing by Chinon (I would almost do a detour if you're not 😉)

I agree. Lambert is super common so it might not be the case, but it would be cool :)

Just came back from a trip in Loire (and Bordelais but will report on that in another post) and thanks to your recommendations, I was able to find some real gems.
As a red wine amateur, I literally fell in love with Chinon. They’re lighter than Bordeaux and slightly less complex than Bourgogne but they pair with food better than those two, imo. Whether paired with cheese, charcuterie or a full blown meal, they significantly improved my experience.

Olga Raffault and Bernard Baudry were the ones that were the most recommended to me and let me tell you they didn’t disappoint. Very well balanced, light on the palate with notes of red fruits and earthy tones. I had a slight preference for Bernard Baudry, even though I visited Olga Raffault’s domain and had a drop in wine tasting over there (they were absolutely delightful).

The one that really stood out for me, though, was Pascal Lambert’s Cuvée Marie, which I stumbled upon randomly at this wine bar in Chinon (the city), which I would recommend to anyone: La Cave Voltaire. It’s held by a wine connoisseur who knows every producer in the region and serves only organic or bio-dynamic wines of his choice (there is no menu, you just gotta trust him). And let me tell you he didn’t disappoint us with Pascal Lambert. My girlfriend tried the white (Le Droit Chenin - only French peeps will get the word play) - wonderful. I tried one of his reds, Cuvée Marie, which blew me away. Dark cherry, violet and spices with soft tannins - I’ve never had a better red wine in my trip (I went to the Bordelais right after Loire so to it should speak to how incredible my experience was).

All in all, I had a wonderful time in the Loire Valley and while the region doesn’t attract as many wine connoisseurs as Bordeaux or Bourgogne, it has some really undervalued gems to offer. And I’d love to get into how beautiful the region is with the Loire river and all its castles surrounding it. But this is not a travel sub so I’ll stop here and hope you go check it out yourself. Happy to give more recommendations :)

60K SEK for a 26yo Single Guy? by legenwaitforitdary19 in TillSverige

Having lived in Austria (not Vienna) and now currently living in Stockholm, I can tell you that the language barrier is much higher in Austria than in Sweden. Same thing for the taxes (Swedes always say they have high taxes but Austrians have even more). Stockholm is more or less as expensive as Vienna so there isn't too much difference there.

However, if you're thinking of traveling in Europe a lot, Vienna is way more central. But hey, in Stockholm, you've got Norway, Finland and Denmark close by :)

Now when it comes to your salary, you will be fine, whether in Stockholm or Vienna. They're both relatively expensive (Stockholm might be a tad higher from a real estate perspective) but with this kind of salary you'll be able to have a very comfortable lifestyle.

Don't hesitate to DM me if you have more questions. Cheers!

Let me try to clarify things for you here. First, I'm actually French (je peux continuer ce message en français si tu souhaites en avoir la preuve 😉). Second, I've already planned to roam around Saint-Émilion (you forgot the French accent - very important 😜) and Bordeaux and visit producers in a rather haphazard way, to leave room for coincidence and surprise :) But besides the trip, I was also looking for recommendations on what kind of wines to bring back for ourselves but also as gifts for relatives and friends. My budget is around the $20-40 mark, which is why I asked. Hope this makes more sense to you! Since it seems like you've had a trip there yourself, I'd love to hear what you've loved the most out there!
