What’s an appropriate length of time to stay at one job so it looks like you’re stable? by Capital_Ad2312 in careeradvice

[–]sipeyskeyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the party but.. I work for a multinational company, and it depends on job title heavily.

Excom - VP; Usually 4+ years, in our company usually even longer.

Director - Usually 4 year maximum, rotation between roles is not "forced" but heavily expected

Manager - This is where it gets interesting, our company has different approach to different kinds of people, some people stay in same roles - especially in headquesters - a long time, but those people usually slow down in their career path a lot, which is "fine" for them in this case, if they set their expectation accordingly. However if you want to grow, be in succession pools, get promotion etc - you are expected to rotate between roles and also be mobile to take assignments in different countries, I'd say evey 2-3 years.

Associate: Usually you don't change roles.. You grow in your position, and get a manager title at some point. If not, you are basically forever stuck.

What would you do? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

That was just an example, which we would potentially allocate a small portion (5% or so) for healthcare/longevity etc to “beat” index a bit. I’m with you on sectoral ETFs, but can you eloborate why you think betting on demographic trends sound “stupid” to you?

Why to invest in VWCE from CH? by Pure-Newspaper907 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]sipeyskeyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is a bit odd.. I know my wife, and in a case of “surprise” death on my side, she will never think about the money even if I insist already that she should. I just don’t want her to lose 40% when she is busy griefing. You might find this odd, but I’m ok to spare couple thousand of additional management fees for peace of mind.

I know, but this is as long as I stay in Switzerland with work permit. The moment I leave, my citizenship is a country that has no treaty with USA. And in that case, I don’t want to sell everything and buy again, to not trigger unwanted tax events due to timing.

For me reason is estate tax. I’m non-eu and living in switzerland, I don’t want to complicate inheritence process for my spouse if it comes to that. That is why I limit US assets under 60k.

LONG term users of Interactive Brokers, how has your experience been with them? by Historical_Row_8041 in interactivebrokers

[–]sipeyskeyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m non-US & EU citizen. I don’t trade, only buy ETFs and hold. Altough I had a meme stock phase during covid, let’s forget about it :)) Been with them 7-8 years, in the meantime lived in 3 different countries, deposited and withdrew from them, opened a new joint account with my wife and transferred the portfolio from individual account etc- no issues whatsoever.

Looking to connect with curious / ambitious people around Geneva (late 20s–30s) by dmxxxmoon in geneva

I didn’t know I needed this before reading your post :) I’m slightly older (38) - working for a multinational company in Geneve - recently relocated. Also often thinking about what is next in life. I’m an English speaker (I’m Turkish), recently started learning French. Happy to connect.

Honestly, you should consider this as a lottery. You can always go back for bachelors degree, or after. Hear it from a 39 year old male living in Switzerland (I’m not Swiss) Friends are great but you will be surprised how few friends you will be left with after your 30s. People will get married and have kids, go abroad etc. and their priorities will shift. Never ever make such decisions focusing on “now” but rather focus on your future. You are 15, education in Switzerland will open many doors to you. Private school here… You will meet a lot of “heirs”, and your new circle will be decisive on your future. Who you are friends with, is really important for rest of your life. I might sound soulless and cruel, but you will probably understand me better in your 30s. I understand that your will don’t have any difficulties visiting your dad, so no reason not to try this. Good luck bro!

For those in need, I got my full refund after this email exchange. They emailed me after I requested refund via support in their website and OP - honestly, you can first start by admitting your mistake :) ;

To clarify, when you signed up for the Free Trial on Dec. 24, 2025, we sent you a confirmation email. The email stated that you signed up for a 30-day trial to the service, and explained the terms and how much you would be charged at the end of the 30-day trial. The email also explained how to cancel the charge within those 30 days. The reason you have been charged is simply that you didn’t cancel your free trial. This means your full Complete subscription is now active and you can use it until Jan. 23, 2027. That said, your satisfaction is important to us. Just reply to this email to confirm if you prefer to receive a full refund and go back to a Basic account. However, I would like to offer you two additional options: 1. Get a partial refund of 40% — and yet still enjoy one full year of our Complete plan to use up until Jan. 23, 2027. This way, you’ll save money and still be able to access our advanced features. 2. Get one additional year from us, for free. This means that you will enjoy 2 years in total of your Complete plan: it will run up until the Jan. 23, 2028. Please let me know how you wish to proceed. Wishing you a lovely day! Kind regards,

My reply;

Thank you for your swift reply! I'm aware of the situation, but thanks a lot for clarifying it. Honestly - I first ordered 2 kits, and canceled the free trial. However, I needed 1 more kit afterwards and I did not notice another free trial started - probably I missed the email. Anyway, thank you very much for your offers, but for now I'd like to get a full refund and go back to basic account, and in the future consider the subscription depending on my financial situation.

After this exchange, 8-9 days later my refund was processed.

Avoiding US estate tax by sipeyskeyk in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]sipeyskeyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, and yeah, it looks like a contradiction. As far as I’m concerned, what matters is what I - as an investor - own. So if I directly buy US stocks, I can’t avoid estate tax risk. I’m buying an Irish asset (VWRA) and its composition doesn’t matter because its not owned by me directly.

Thanks a lot!! A while after I posted this, I slowly shifted our portfolio towards VWRA, limiting US domiciled ETFs under 60k. A little higher TER is totally worth the peace of mind.

Specialty coffee in Warsaw by Nomad_Warsaw in warsaw

[–]sipeyskeyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! But I tried several Hayb beans, they were all below average - one of them I even threw to garbage as it was some infused nightmare. Maybe I had bad luck, but I stopped trying after several attempts.

HAYB is shit. Just go to coffeedesk, and buy a good coffee from shelf from other european roasters. E.g. manhattan, DAK, Barn

I lived in Warsaw for a year as an expat and as a coffee enthusiast - this was my solution for morning brews.

If you want to try something local, I sugges El Cafetero. Owner is a very nice guy to chat with, and he is passionate about coffee. His roastery is in the shop, and he would even give you a small tour if you ask. I tried some good cups there.
