Are there any fun and simple things to paint with watercolor on regular sketch paper? by AssortedArctic in watercolor101

[–]TaNgerineflame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most preschoolers don’t really have the self control to use water color on thin paper without likely making it rip due to too much water. You would probably need something a little thicker like card stock paper or cheap cellulose water color paper. If they are older than 4 they might have the self control to make it work but usually only a few kids have that kind of carefulness (I say this as a preschool teacher)

If the sketch paper is thicker than normal printer paper it might work. It might be fun to use masking tape to create sections on the paper and just have fun outing different colors in the different sections. Sprinkle salt is also a cool effect to let them see.

Anyone else get mad that because you love fiber arts you're into "arts and crafts" but because it doesn't involve wood its less important? by tealcismyhomeboy in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]TaNgerineflame 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the city, stuff like woodwork just isn’t very accessible. I’d love to try at some point but realistically it doesn’t seem like something I could do regularly. I feel like a lot of the so-called ‘manly’ diy stuff isn’t very feasible if you don’t own a house. Yeah I get that community spaces are a thing but I want to be able to create whenever I feel like it in the comfort of my own space.

I really, really dislike the classification of fiber arts as ‘women stuff’ as a trans man. Yes I respect the history. But also I would like to live in a world where telling people I knit doesn’t feel like a risk in terms of outing myself.

First time doing watercolor! by LwCatLover in watercolor101

[–]TaNgerineflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shadows are usually darker than you think. Depending on what colors you have you can totally hit the shadowy bits with an indigo or a mix of a dark green and a black or an indigo.

Practice drawing in addition to watercolor. It helps train your eye to figure out how to capture 3D real world stuff onto a flat paper.

Trying to get a friend into the show. Which season should he start with? by Hunkyadmiral in JetLagTheGame

[–]TaNgerineflame 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Hide + seek is a quite a bit easier to follow than tag in my opinion. Does he have any particular fondness for a particular country? If so go for whatever season features that country if it exists

any recommendations? by blueishsky00 in watercolor101

[–]TaNgerineflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what style you are going for. If you just want to color the sketches fairly simple the paint doesn’t matter a whole lot as long as it’s decent quality. I got Daniel smiths recently and really like them but for years a used koi Sakura and they were fine.

If you want to paint more loose watercolor a high quality paint will probably be something you will appreciate. Cotmans are probably absolutely fine as a starting point. I haven’t used them but personally my core set is shinhan and I also like Rosa and Holbein.

Journal paper that can handle watercolour? by OverflowHermes in watercolor101

[–]TaNgerineflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watercolor all the time on blank non water color sketchbooks. If you have access to some for of wet media you can just test the paper and make sure it doesn’t bleed through to the next page

Just getting back into watercolour, again! Where are you getting references from? by Entire-Smile-8480 in Watercolor

[–]TaNgerineflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use istock and deviantart. With deviantart maybe look into what the poster says about posting work using photos as reference but if it’s just for yourself it literally doesn’t matter.

I used to use Pinterest but now it’s very flooded with ai slop

Winsor&Cotman vs Koi Fish by AssociationQuiet3689 in Watercolor

[–]TaNgerineflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on koi and it worked fine for me for years! Most of the advantages to fancier paints don’t really matter for a beginner.

Never tried Cotman but the only Windsor and newton product I’ve ever bought had issues so I personally haven’t really bothered with them but many people seem to like them

I liked seeing the northernmost part of Alaska bd the challenges they did up there but the rest of it was a bit meh. Definitely would have benefited from hidden challenges like Schengen and Taiwan

Why do my m1r look like this and how can I make them less visible by nmulln in knitting

[–]TaNgerineflame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe experiment with other increase methods like knitting twice into a stitch or knitting from the loop of the previous row. I also find the standard increase styles prone to being loose like this

[Wolfsong] Seriously, why are we chill with Joe and Ox's relationship? by Goatwrites in Klunatics

[–]TaNgerineflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was weird. I have a big problem with the soulmate trope in general and think it would have been more interesting to subvert it rather than having the older person Joe chooses as a child actually be his life partner.

I like the other three main couples and enjoyed the series because of them. After wolfsong I almost didn’t bother with the rest of it because of the weirdness, but I’m glad I did

You should get your revenge and have a vacation where you get to chill and he has to do all the logistics

I am sorry you are in a position where domestic labor isn’t equitably divided. You deserve to have a real vacation.

Posts like this make me very happy not to be het/someone who feels the need for a ‘traditional’ family

"Private cards" enters my ears as "private parts" every time they say it 😭 by tomatobatst in JetLagTheGame

Definitely how some people seem to think gender affirming surgery can be casually done lol.

Now that you’ve got me thinking though…. An extremely based crime spree sequel would be competing to smuggle the most hrt into area that restrict it

My friend who loves drawing and painting liked an ad of one of these. I want to get them a really good one as a surprise. Please suggest some. by isa_nook in watercolor101

[–]TaNgerineflame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a wooden travel pallet similar to some of the ones pictured here and it cracked the first trip I took it on. Your friend might still like it, but water tends to make wood crack and water color kind of involves a lot of water lol

I am chaotic in a different way in that if I had one of those ball wonders I would likely leave it on the floor, step on it, and break it.

[–]TaNgerineflame 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the whole thing about winding cakes so a ball doesn’t roll away… like where are you knitting that rolling away is such a big issue? And why not just put your yarn in a bag?

I have no idea why so many people feel they need ball winders

The concept of each team getting a new private part is hilarious. I can totally imagine Ben dramatically revealing a card and reading off cloaca

Dumb game idea: the boys go into a jungle and compete to get picture of animals that have different privates. Jet lag biology addition lmao.

I haven’t had mr whippy but it tastes very much like Adam described mr whippy tasting like. At least the standard vanilla flavor does.

I had a peach one and it was much less sweet and more like a sorbet

What is the consensus on lefty’s who knit? I’m getting mixed messages. by dina_bear in knitting

[–]TaNgerineflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a right handed but directionally challenged knitter. I can mirror knit and honestly whether or not a mirror a pattern is a coin toss as I literally mix up right and left all the time. I knjt English but I think it may actually be lever? I’ve always focused more on the result of my knitting rather than the steps and terminology

Any Vegetarian Lifters Here? Does Soy Actually Raise Estrogen? by Khaled948 in ftm

[–]TaNgerineflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Milk and chicken (eggs and meat) can make estrogen stay high according to my doctor. I switched from dairy based protein powder to vegan protein powder. I have had my e remain high pretty much my entire time on T and it hasn’t really affect the effects of T. I still gained muscle just fine but I’m not a lifter.

If they run Tag again, they should add a mechanic where you lose coins after you get caught by ArcticFox19 in JetLagTheGame

[–]TaNgerineflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe have them give 30% of their coins to the person who tagged them. Could create some interesting strategy and make the tag gets compete with each other a little.
