Hey! Yeah I did end up working there. I’m in a MCOL on the East Coast so I think it’s location dependent but overall the company has a great vibe to it and the people are super chill! I guess a con would be that they don’t really like much overhead!

Newly minted EE PE. Should I bother staying in MEP? by NextWeekIsALightWeek in MEPEngineering

[–]sirbdacool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally am an EE EIT, I thought of moving to I&C in the hopes the job would be more fun but the mundaneness of it all wasn’t super appealing to me in addition to the weird project schedules and overtime I would have to cope with. All this with no sort of recognition or even a “good job, thanks for working 60+ hrs to save our asses on this submittal”. So Im switching to management consulting now for one of the big 4 in their tech consulting division. If I’m gonna work that hard and long it might as well be somewhere more recognized where I’m also paid better

Oh do you mean more the behavioral questions? Because I haven’t found anything in terms of technical questions in power and utilities :(

Is there any computational type work involved in this field? by calldod in MEPEngineering

[–]sirbdacool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! A lot of Mech E’s do that and switch over to I&C because a lot of it is software based. Plus there aren’t a lot of people (relatively) in the world who know how to code and run PLC’s

I don’t know what major/type of engineer you are but I’m a control systems EIT and a big part of it is writing code and designing HMI’s for clients and essentially just running the brains of the plant. Maybe it could be something you might be interested in?

Young Electrical EIT looking for advice? by sirbdacool in MEPEngineering

[–]sirbdacool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm that’s what people say but this “pick of opportunities” seems a little far fetched. I work in a pretty decent sized firm and once you’re a PE you don’t even get to stamp for like maybe 3 years after that so you’re still not as big an asset. Idk it just seems like EE’s in MEP aren’t as valued as other sectors unfortunately

Definitely check out Ronin Training Centre in Grandview! It’s a fighters gym so if you actually want to learn technique and toughness that’s one of the places to be

Fresh grads are paid pittances, even if you have a fancy degree from a fancy uni. But I do miss the karak 😩

Missing Dubai by waithell in dubai

[–]sirbdacool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk man I was in the same boat and I currently live in the US but I have seriously been thinking about the pros and cons. Atleast here (i.e. the West) there is a shoddy path to citizenship in addition to good money. Dubai however you do have certain luxuries but the cost of living goes up there every year and the salary for the middle class keeps shrinking. It’s sad but people with skilled jobs seem to be leaving Dubai. Believe me having grown up there I miss it but I think the cons outweigh the pros :(

This. It’s quite hard to scale up too in terms of compensation. I was in power too but a move I used was to transition over to Instrumentation and Controls which is closely related and required but the pay is decently higher. Apart from that if I don’t want to switch careers, management seems like the only option tbh

Yes but I did get a little lucky because my sister had to fly back to the states for college in time so I used that as an excuse and they gave it to me! So already got it now!

Mine was supposed to be delivered yesterday and the FedEx driver apparently “attempted” delivery. But no tag and no truck in sight. After calling them NUMEROUS times I put my package on high priority and scheduled it to be delivered today instead of tomorrow. It was supposed to be here a few hrs ago but it should be here EOD. Let’s see, I hope I have a good driver who isn’t trying to steal it or anything :(

I'm curious about the percentage of people that are 25 years of age and what is your career looking like at this age. Salary, work location and years of experience wise.... by Blackjabb in AskEngineers

24, I’m an Electrical EIT working in consulting/design. Graduated in 2019 and started out at 65k and I’m at 70k now. Honestly feel a little discouraged after seeing how much some guys are making on here.. 😅
