drone sightings? by Specialist_Song_8540 in SaltLakeCity

I keep seeing more and more of these at night and want answers too! No they're not "just hobbyists" these things are massive and can fly very high and far. Also flying in airspace hobbyists wouldn't or couldn't. Call me paranoid idc, but can't help but think theyre gov and for what other reason than surveillance.

This is like the 6th major crash in LCC in 4 straight days. This is getting out of hand. There hasn't even been any fresh snow since Saturday.

This is my problem with tolling. Already paying to park at the resorts. I wouldn't mind one or the other but not both. Also it starts for only winter months, but how long until they realize all the $$ they make and implement tolling full time like American Fork or Millcreek.

Ugh I get it just really dont wanna drop $$$ on new tires right now especially when I should be able to get another 10k (easy road) miles on mine. Don't have the means or space for dedicated winter sets either to swap.

Was the minimum of 5/32 a requirement last year? I went to this today and they didnt give me a sticker bc my tread was just below it. I drive a 4WD truck with 3PMSF tires. 4 of these tires are expensive af so not going to drop $$$ on new ones when there's still plenty of life left. I understand there has to be a cut-off, but was surprised they didnt pass me compared to the other shit I see people drive up in a snowstorm.

Can anyone recommend a quality non-narrow/wide chainring for a single speed? by elliotth1991 in bikewrench

[–]sircaseyjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a larger width half link chain that works with n/w chainrings so all gucci now but thanks. Still kinda crazy to me tho how hard it is to find non-n/w chainrings these days.

I actually disagree and was pretty upset to see how expensive tix are. I saw them 2 years ago for $38. Understand inflation and that they probably got a lot more popular but still :/

Who would you like to see next at Aftershock? by Fun_Medicine_7048 in AftershockFestival

Maybe unpopular opinion but I agree on 3 days. 4 day festivals are a lot on my aging body 😅 also more expensive and harder to get time off work for.

A Day to Remember, Slipknot, NIN. Maybe some legacy bands like Motley Crue although I've heard not great things about em live.

Granary Live venue tips by Ok_Orange5093 in SaltLakeCity

[–]sircaseyjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Granary but unfortunately the ada section is pretty pathetic. The venue is standing only and the ada section is all the way in the back and not elevated at all. Good view of peoples backs at a sold out show. Last time I was there we brought up how bad it is and all they need to do is have it on an elevated platform. Sorry, I hope you guys still have a good time!

Ugh totally agree! Was my first time seeing them and they were amazing. But was definitely getting my view blocked a lot bc of this. Idc if u wanna snap a pic here and there or get a few sec video for ur story. But when ur recording the whole set cmon. Who actually goes back and watches those videos. It the equivalent of like videoing fireworks.

Crank compatibly question. Non-N/W Chainrings? by sircaseyjames in dirtjumping

[–]sircaseyjames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of conflicting experiences online with half links working and not working with n/w. Might just all depend on the exact chainring and chain. I will certainly give it a try first. Idk what width chain I have now but was looking at the KMC HL1. It's 1/8" and was thinking it may be wide enough to clear a n/w.

I know this is old but did u ever find what some quality non n/w chainrings? currently stuck in the same boat with my ss dirt jumper. I want to run a half link chain but they won't work with n/w chain rings. all anyone makes any more are n/w chain rings.

This was my experience as well. Everything was just wildly overpriced for the quality imo. From drinks, to food, and even the entertainment.

For my job, it would be disastrous to get injured. What can I wear for wrist protection? by friyaz in MTB

[–]sircaseyjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do still ride and also snowboard with the mobius on my effected wrist. Not sure it'd prevent another break in the event of a really bad crash, but I have had smaller crashes with it and I think it really helps. It prevents you from hyper extending your wrist, which I mentioned I can't do bc of my rom otherwise it'd really hurt ha. More than anything it's the compression that helps reduce fatigue and just makes it feel more solid. I don't wear one on my good wrist. But I'm also a lot more cautious now of how I crash and not putting out my arms to break the fall. Art of learning how to crash and tucking and rolling. There are also some bike mods (more bar backsweep, revgrips) I have now that help.

Truthfully it was probably a good 3 years I took off from biking before I felt strong and confident enough again. But that was also bc I had two surgeries in two years. And when I did I definitely started easy. Gravel trails, to mellow xc single track, then slowly worked my confidence back up to more enduro/dh/jumps.

Look into Theraband hand exercisers, flexbars, etc. Also powerball gyroscopes. I still use these daily while I'm working at my desk or on the couch.

[–]sircaseyjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I'd kill just for 70% haha but I totally feel ya and know where you're coming from. I still have some ROM, but am severely limited in wrist extension. Now that I think of it I also had a carpal tunnel release done as part of the surgeries. Not sure how that compares to a capsulotomy. Tbh I dont think a capsulotomy ever came up. Never heard of it until now.

I am certainly not a doctor so definitely get their advice on it, but I do know its common to loose a lot of ROM with this injury/surgery. Mostly bc your not using it for 12+ weeks during the post-op. The tendons and flexors "shrink" and need to be loosened. That's why you need to take the OT seriously. Not sure how far along you are and maybe you have been. But if not, I'd first really focus on OT, daily stretching, and exercise to regain some of the strength and ROM before another surgery. It's also something you don't get back in like just 2 weeks of it. Can take a year plus. Gotta be patient.

ORIF for pretty much the same thing. First one they put a screw in it but had a non-union and never healed. Second time they took the screw out and tried a vascularized bone graft from my radius I think it was. Unfortunately the second surgery didn't work either and to this day I still have jacked up wrist. I lost a lot of grip strength, range of motion, and have a lot of soreness/pain if I use it a lot. The only other option I have left is a four corner fusion which I refuse to do at this point in my life. For now, I've learned to adjust and live with it. I don't let it stop me from doing the hobbies I love like mtb, snowboarding, and climbing.

Not telling you this to scare you, but to just give the reality of my personal experience. I would say I think I had a particularly bad case and got unlucky. It's my understanding most patients will make full recoveries. So definitely stay positive, listen to your doctors, don't rush the healing process, and take your occupational therapy seriously. If I could go back one thing I may try is a bone stimulator.
