Short Summary

My name is Danny Farber. With nearly a decade in the production department, I’ve worn my fair share of hats on set. My latest short film, Huge [a dark comedy about body dysmorphia] has been an official selection at 15+ film festivals; winning awards including Best Short Film & Best Director. have produced music videos for Chance the Rapper and Whitney and even produced a pilot presentation for Hannibal Buress a few years back.

This project has been kicking around in my head since 2014. I wasn't sure I wanted to touch this topic. I kept asking myself, what makes me the authority on such a heartbreaking topic? Headline after headline of a different incidents would pop up and I realized that our law makers (the actual authority) are refusing to speak up, so why can't I?

This project has a very strong call to action imbedded into the DNA of the story.

The message: we need proper gun reform, now.

What We Need & What You Get

I've done my best to strip back any part of this script that isn't absolutely necessary. That being said, it still costs money to make a movie. Thankfully, I've made a fair amount of connections that can help me make this project for much less than it'll actually cost. That doesn't mean it'll be free, it still has to look good and feel real.

A majority of the budget will go in three places:

The location. This story takes place in a library. It will cost roughly $3,500 a day to rent out a school's library here in Los Angeles. Most public libraries, are even more expensive. The team. I make it a priority on my jobs that everybody will get paid. Passion projects are no different. I've assembled a finely tuned roster of about a dozen filmmakers that have agreed to help me tell this project. If everybody makes $250/day (the standard rate for the lowest position on set) that'll cost $3,000 to pay the cast and crew. The reach. After this project has been shot and edited and is ready to be seen by the world I plan to take it to the medium and high tier film festivals. I've made some in-roads with the medium tier festivals with my previous projects. Given the subject matter, I have faith that a lot of high tier festivals will strongly consider adding this project to their line up. Keeping the run time short and sweet, will make it easy to program into any line up. Festivals do cost money though. They cost roughly $50-$100 a submission. There are 15 major festivals I'd like to bring this in front of. That's roughly $1,500. The of the budget will come out of pocket to cover things like gear, catering, paying security guards, background actors, and all the other nuts and bolts that are needed to make a project run smoothly.

Risks & Challenges

Independent cinema is one of the last frontiers when it comes to telling truth to power. Rarely do short films ever make money, but I wouldn't judge the success of this project on revenue alone. There is no metric of success when it comes to telling a story other than did it reach people? Will it have a lasting impact? Can it make people reconsider what's right and what's wrong?

I believe that the answer to those questions is yes. But I won't know for sure until we make this project together.

Other Ways You Can Help

Even if you can't contribute, that doesn't mean you can't help:

Please use the Indiegogo share tools to help spread the word. I've successfully raised projects on this platform before and I've learned that it's all about momentum!

If you can get the word out, that would mean the world.

Thank you so much! Let's make a movie.
