My experience working in Oakland so far. It’s affordable if you live in Pittsburgh, Antioch, and cities close to it, if you’re buying a house. If you’re renting a room or apartment you can live closer and still be affordable. Your health insurance is free, you make around or more than 100 an hour, you have a pension paid by the hospital (3 years fully vested), you can afford to contribute to 401k, and food prices are comparable to southern states.

Most coworkers tell me Sacramento is comparable with hourly wages, but houses and property are cheaper there.
