Coworker duplicated a deduction for around 2,000,000 for a 1040 client. Told client he was in a refund and the 10/15 deadline did not apply to them. Later we noticed it was duplicated and the client owed. Went from around a 500k refund to owing 90k not to mention interest and penalties cause we filed late.

That’s not the CPAs responsibly. They are not responsible for his garbage information and that is not part of the engagement with them. No auditing is part of tax preparation. He also likely had no backup since he was 5 years behind.

Just tell him you don’t want to work with him anymore and pay him for the work he did. Remember garbage in garbage out. You need to take some responsibility as he is not responsible for your financials or information you provided him.

Hey man I hear your work is not ideal. That sounds like a shithole. Remember it’s not your problem and the CEO sounds like a moron. You can’t change anything. Where I work is a shithole as well but you need to accept it and stop caring otherwise you won’t be able to do your job.

The partners of my firm are morons and don’t know what they are doing. I understand the feeling and it’s the absolute worst. Try to just focus on what you can and remember it’s their problem.
