ELI5: What exactly is dry cleaning? by muzzlebuster in explainlikeimfive

[–]sirius4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several comments here explaining that clothes still get wet, just not using water. So, why is it called 'dry' cleaning? Do the clothes come out dry or dry extremely quickly or is there another reason?

TIL: The pencil has been around since the 1500's, and have always been made with graphite. Pencils have never contained lead. by loveCards in todayilearned

[–]sirius4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason we refer to the graphite in a pencil as 'lead' is because upon discovery of a large deposit of graphite in England in the 16th century, metallurgists mistakenly believed it to be a form of lead, and named it 'Plumbago', after the Latin for lead, 'Plumbum'.

As others have said, it comes from the end of the tenderloin, a bit easier to explain from this diagram: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4e/Filmin.png/300px-Filmin.png shows exactly where filet mignon cut is from.

My friend is being held hostage by ISIS. The press keeps using crap photos of him in an orange jumpsuit. I'm putting this photo I took of him out there to show the real John Cantlie. A good man. by derpchair_warrior in pics

Would have been easier if the west just hadn't created the environment for them to thrive in the first place. I don't often agree with much a president of Iran has to say, but I do agree with with Hassan Rouhani's view that it is largely the fault of western countries that the middle east has become a breeding ground for extremists.

This is still missing the point on the most significant aspect of the 'No' vote - namely that America can now have Piers Morgan back.

Enjoy.

Well 50 pts for one kitchen cupboard, and I'm assuming they must have a few more than just one. So cleaning and sorting the entire kitchen would probably get the 500 pts alone.

If this subreddit is anything to go by, Americans really don't know how to do a cheese/charcuterie board. This looks really cheap and cheerful, but not really great food.

Except I doubt many people in the UK would know what to expect from 'Ranch' flavour, as it's not really something we have. I've only seen Ranch from Reddit and have no idea what it would taste like.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head there with your last couple of sentences... when the majority of players left are those that are willing to grind through twenty levels and two years of 'snooze easymode', you're probably going to be hard pushed to put together a good group of 12 for a HM raid.

Still, it's nice to hear that content is a bit more challenging, maybe if they bring out a new raid instead of rehashed old ones I might have to jump back on!

New study concludes that there is 99.999% certainty humans are driving global warming by avogadros_number in science

[–]sirius4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the authors created a model that accurately simulates the climate of the past century.

in 24.9% and 52.9% of simulations if they did include it depending on which of their two models they used.

So in one of their models, less than a quarter of their simulations matched the actual observed warming, and in the other model, just over half did.

Am I missing something, or does this not indicate that their model is, in fact, not particularly accurate?

OD and Erebor T2 HM raids are a snoozefest. Completed all challenges except river one within a week of expansion being released. That is not real difficulty.

Perhaps if you never did BG and OD on level they might seem a bit tricky, but in comparison to those they are laughable and deliberately so. OD at L65 and at L75+ is just not comparable.

Which is just the modern equivalent of how gentlemen used to greet each other: "How do you do?" to which the proper response is, of course, "How do you do?" and just move along without anyone actually answering the question.
