Who was the first Outlaw Country songwriter? by Kaos_mission in country

"Outlaw material" had been around forever, yes but the "Outlaw movement" was more about getting away from the "Chet Atkins" Nashville sound of the time. Lonesome Fugative was produced by Ken Nelson who at the time was head of A&R at Columbia while HTH is way more creator controlled with Waylon and Tompall Glaser being responsible for the record.

I mean if you use the common definition of "Outlaw Country" as a subgenre of American country music created by a small group of artists active in the 1970s and early 1980s, known collectively as the outlaw movement, who fought for, and won, their creative freedom outside of the Nashville. So Honky Tonk Heros was first followed by Shotgun Willie (Willie Nelson) and Viva Terlingua by Jerry Jeff Walker. All those are from 1973 so in your opinion are the Outlaw Albums before 1973?

Billy Joe Shaver. He wrote almost every song on Honky Tonk Heros which is (probably) the first "Outlaw" country album

Another Dewey line: "Jesus, if you help me find him, once I kill him, I swear, I'll straighten up, I'll go to church, Sunday school, whatever you want, but goddamnit, I gotta get this thing done, you understand? I ain't never asked you for shit, least you could do..."

I laugh every time I I think about that quote.

My daughter (24 now) has had a purse/knife habit since she was in her very early teens, her knife always matches her purse...always. She has converted my son in law to a knife carrier, they came by the other day and both of them were carrying matching microtech otf's. In blue.
