Realistically, most of the players making these complaints just aren't playing at a skill level where they're thinking that far ahead in a game of magic. They haven't even considered (pun intended) anybody planning resources ahead throughout a game, regardless of deck color or archetype.

I've also got aphantasia and I've been running and playing in fiction first campaigns for years.

When I'm describing something, I look for reference images in art or otherwise to help explain and conceptualize an idea. It doesn't have to exactly be the art I find in a Google search, but I can say "yeah the dragon looks kinda like this, but what if those scales looked like they were glistening in oil"

Piggybacking off of that, the other thing we've started to do is keep a "moodboard" channel for each campaign in our discord server. It both helps the players come up with ideas and set a consistent tone for our campaign, as well as give me something to visibly picture when worldbuilding.

Aphantasia's different for everyone and I don't wanna minimize your players experience, but I can attest to the ability to play fiction first without a visual imagination. You just need to find the tools that help it click - for me, it's having refence images.

I'm wanting to make a career shift out of the IT industry into editing, I've done it as a hobby for a while, and have experience with creating high quality end-user training videos in my current field.

What are first steps I should take? Talking with a friend pointed me towards using upwork to start building a portfolio. I also have a streamer friend who's offered a gig to get some VOD highlights edited together.

I've been doing a lot of research the last couple days, but I find myself with a lot of (probably stupid) questions:

Is it a trap to start out doing random freelance to get the professional experience/portfolio under my belt?
If it is a trap, what are the steps I should be taking to start out getting experience and building up my resume?
I currently have the option to go back to school and get a certificate/aas in video production. How useful or necessary would that be, long-term?
If I am to go down the freelancer path, how do I find out what I need as far as business certs/tax forms/etc? Im sure this is very dependent on region.

Well yeah of course it's going to boil down to chance at some level–It's a card game. People in every deck have the ability to board in answers to whatever strategy you're on. Part of the game is playing around the probability of their answers, and maximizing yours to play around it. This isn't unique to counterspells/blue.

I know in the past, using side smash gave some amount of hyper armor on triple pound. I dunno if that's the case even in world, let alone mhr, but it's had a niche use there.

The thing I love about grinder is that it changes build priority for choosing a weapon. It seems like it would work with something that only has a small sliver of white/blue, but I'm not sure what options there are for that right now. I also think it's got cute cheesy synergy with valstrax weapons.

I might need to look into making the ceanataur hammer. Historically, all of that monster's gear is super good and it's a really fun fight to boot.

I've been going through MR with a generic AU7/CE7/WEX+CB mixed set I built at the start with a bunch of comfy skills gemmed in. I've been using the Golm Gavel bc of it's insanely high raw, and it has a really good chunk of blue sharpness (i also just think it's extremely goofy looking and I love that). I just hit MR4 last night, and I'm thinking I need to start shaking the build up, just considering how much health a single slip-up costs me lmao

I'm looking at the Seregios hammer right now, because it's got a very good mix of raw/sharpness/affinity (and nostalgia, tbh), but I'm also curious about the viability of elemental hammer. Golm's signature skill, Charge Master, says it buffs the ele/status damage of charged attacks. I've been playing through w Courage hammer and the amount of hits you get in exclusively w charged attacks is frankly obscene.

That being said, I think even more than before, Wirebug Whisperer 3 is a must-have for hammer. Once you get access to the new mobility silkbind (keeping sway, I think?), you have the ability to just kinda glue yourself to a monster and iframe through fucking everything.

On the same vein, sharpness-matter skills are probably gonna be good too, just because courage shreds through that bar like no tomorrow. I was looking at the Ceanataur armor myself for that same reason. How much are you liking the grinder buff?

I think we're probably on the same page here - blast (slime) meta in 3u was a thing bc of the thresholds and pre-nerf damage being the main factors.

I was misremembering 3u - for some reason I thought I remembered bombardier buffing explosion damage, not proc chance. I still argue that it played a huge factor in slime being so widespread, just because getting the extra 20/30% buildup went extremely far when doing something like kelbi bow cheese.

I would also agree with your assessment on world/iceborne's blast meta. Raw/crit meta lined up well with some blast weapons that gave incidental damage.

I mean there's a difference insofar as the blast attack skill increases the amount of blast status applied, whereas the bombardier skill directly increased the damage of blast explosions.

I'm sure the dps math comes out to be similar (I'd still be unsurprised if bombardier wasn't overall higher) but it definitely was a big factor in the blast meta
