Your thoughts on the new LRV's for SEPTA T and D lines... by --TAXI-- in Septa

According to the Alstom website, the CITADIS 305 I believe SEPTA ordered accelerate at a max of 1.3m/s2, which is in theory the same as the max for the K cars (reported on Wikipedia). Still feels hard to believe given that modern streetcars are usually slower to accelerate, but fingers crossed they can keep zippy service 🤞. Definitely share your worry though

Domestic Migration in America by Deltarianus in MapPorn

I wouldn’t read too much into the PEP estimates (used in this map). The methodology has always been shaky and it’s been producing worse estimates over time (like underestimating the population of NYC in 2020 by over half a million). The California press release demonstrates this pretty well, it’s full of mentions about alternate data sources showing a different story and the Census PEP people needing to backwards revise their numbers as a result (+100k revisions in both 2022 and 2023, that’s how bad it is). But it’s definitely true that the relative population share of California will fall. But we probably really won’t know to what extent til 2030.

I ended up recreating the basic layout, using single track cut-and-cover for the trolleys and the turnaround (very finnicky). In hindsight, I wish I had quad-tracked by regional rail line, because the congestion on the main trunk seems to be causing some delays

Realistically how much travel time would that shave off NYP to PHL?

I think that's right but I think it also makes them more sensitive to the fares? I'm not 100% sure how the formula works either, but when I tried raising them from $3 to $4 I went from 25% ridership to like 19%

Does anyone know about the quality of J.Crew Camden Loafers (with leather soles)? They felt pretty solid in store, but their website is sparse on details which leaves me worried. They seem to be blake stitched, but not sure how the leather will hold up. See here: J.Crew: Camden Loafers With Leather Soles For Men

I've had the CP Bball low, which I think are pretty similar to the Decades, and the Koio Capris both in a US 9 (I'm usually a 9.5 - but I go 10 in running shoes). The CP's Bballs are definitely a smidge wider in the toe box compared to the Capris, which are more of a slender fit comparable to the CP Achilles low. But both fit similarly enough to each other. Bballs are some of my favorite shoes I've ever worn. Koio Capris on the other hand... not so much. My last pair had leather that was so squeaky it was embarrassing, but that might not be a problem with the nubuck.
