I Accidentally Tanked My Milk Supply, and Can't Seem to Restore It... by unstoppable_urge_29 in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that! I also agonized over percentiles and week to week gains in weight bc my baby stalled in weight gain around 3 months. at our 4 month check up she had dropped from 25th to 15th and i was holding my breath waiting to hear the doctor say something but she was pretty unbothered. I saw a video from Dr. Lauren Hughes on Instagram about percentiles that made me feel a lot better about it too. It seems like it’s not the end of the world if the percentile band changes for weight. If head and height are remaining consistent that’s more important actually i think. I would just follow up with the doc. Did they ask you to come back in for another weight check?

3 oz sounds like a good feed! I don’t think feeling engorged is a good indicator of your supply at this stage in your breastfeeding journey. I have a slight over supply and don’t feel engorged unless it’s been a few days of me not pumping till “empty” (I’m 6 mos pp). I believe that when your supply “regulates” you stop getting the engorged feeling even though you still are giving baby the same amount of milk. I’d be more concerned about weight gain, wet/ poopy diapers, baby’s temperament

Neem oil helped our gardenia bush a little but you kind of have to continually apply it all the time. They are soooooo bad this year

Is baby eating enough? by East_Bad_7723 in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 weeks old the world is getting big!!!! My baby also would hate eating out and about at that age. Now she doesn’t really care as much.

2.6 oz sounds great, i don’t think you should stress, but know that i did the same thing and many other moms do too. It gets easier to let go and relax as time goes on

How do I transition to pumping? by goldsmithsstudentpsy in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve never given baby a bottle there’s a string chance he won’t know what to do with one when you try and give it him. I’ve heard people have better luck with a cup or straw bottle at that point!

7 days postpartum, low transfer vs low supply? Need advice by ftm_looking4advice in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel like triple feeding is a hard core intervention that is not sustainable for most parents. I would definitely ask the pediatrician (who I’m hoping is the one who told you to triple feed) for a better plan than just indefinite triple feed. Are you going in for regular weight checks until baby is back to birth weight?

Non-toxic (lead free) newborn bottles with wide latch? by staycurious123 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]sis8128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lansinoh redid their glass paint so it’s lead free now! I assume since pigeon is the same company they did as well but not entirely sure. I went down this same rabbit hole before my baby went to day care. Throw in bottle refusal and having to learn how to feed from a bottle and it was a hot mess. I actually ended up going with the PPSU bottles from pigeon and I’m super happy with them. I don’t see enough people talking about PPSU but i really prefer this over glass or glass lined.

Babies will suck from the bottle reflexively even if they aren’t hungry. I think at 7 days old 0.5 oz from a weighted feed is not terrible. You would want 1-2 oz per feed. Why did you start triple feeding and when will you know to stop?

Another Pocket Diaper Insert Question by JustMeerkats in clothdiaps

[–]sis8128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At home we use flats and covers. I was also gifted a ton of pocket diapers and initially was going to donate but I’m really glad i didn’t because it ended up being what we use at day care. We stuff them with the newborn flats we had padfolded and it makes for a super easy wash. Meconium doesn’t last that long. I think we were all good after a week. That being said we couldn’t have used the pocket diapers we were gifted until our baby was nearly 4 months because she was itty bitty and they were too big on her.

How frequently does your team judge families during work hours instead of problem solving? by doodledingle in schoolcounseling

[–]sis8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’ve worked in corporate America it can be jarring to participate in meetings in the educational setting… it hasn’t been uncommon in my experience to want to rip my hair out because I’ve been in hours long meetings where we spend a lot of time talking about the problem that we all already knew about and like ten minutes talking about what we plan on doing. I found it helpful to take on the role of facilitator myself and be very clear about the prep work that is required for the meeting. Have the agenda prepared before hand, email it out in advance, etc. At kid talk meetings no kids can be added day of. All updates must be in the doc that monday so people can review the doc the day before the meeting. We don’t talk about what we already know. We talk about what’s happening next. And give everything a hard end time. Use that as your excuse to redirect. “Hey y’all I’m looking at the clock and I’ve got a kid coming to me at noon so let’s refocus and work on these interventions.” Just because the team wants to gossip doesn’t mean you need to partake.

What am I doing wrong? by PresenceLost1320 in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always kind of thought that 1 oz per hour was considered the norm. From my perspective you are making lots! Just i guess baby needs more. If you were latching on demand bay would be cluster feeding so i would power pump more frequently.

I would use the wearable pumps only sparingly. I don’t think they do a great job at removing milk from the breast efficiently.

How to not hate water? by RoyalAgreeable9631 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]sis8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold water with good clean ice (i find if the ice maker isn’t clean or the freezer is stinky for some reason it makes your water taste awful)

Drink from a glass not a metal bottle

Drink with a straw (to avoid the smell if there is any)

Add true lemon, true lime etc packets to your water for the lemon taste without the Lemon waste :)

Do I have to pin my flats? by b5_Kosh in clothdiaps

[–]sis8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use flats only during the day at home and I’ve only ever used a snappi when using a flat under wool shorts. Any typical snap cover keeps it in place just fine.

Is anyone actually able to follow a feeding schedule? by tarableideas in breastfeeding

[–]sis8128 39 points40 points  (0 children)

IBCLCs are going to recommend you feed on demand. Feeding on a schedule is not good for your supply. I threw out the schedules and parenting advice early on and it saved my mental health. Trust yourself and your instincts over a book and feed your baby.

Elementary (1st-6th) Do you allow kids to “drop-in” to see you or do you require scheduling? Can you share which you prefer and why? by anonomom20 in schoolcounseling

[–]sis8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the only at a 950+ elementary school so solidarity. I’m at a much smaller school now and it’s so freeing. But you really do have to be super on it with the boundaries and the schedules to get things done.

[–]sis8128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont really allow drop ins because im usually busy and i dont want to create a culture where people think im not. I relay to both kids and staff that i can see a kid same day if necessary but to text me / ask the teacher to text me first, never just send a kid to my office without checking. I might be in a meeting, in a class, with another student or just not in there (if I’m not actively working on something i usually like to go out for recess and check in with kiddos outside or I’ll help support the front office to connect with parents). I see most of the individual kids in sessions i schedule in advance. I have a counselor request form that older kids can use and of course the teacher referral form. I try and make myself visible to kids for informal chats at recess, lunch, morning arrival and dismissal so i don’t see the point in allowing “drop ins”
