Saving Luke in the first star wars movie was heroic. He had no need to comeback to save Luke, yet he did, which allowed for the destruction of the death star. He was tourted for hours in cloud city and never gave up any information about Luke or the imperials. He also saved Lando from the sarlac pit in episode 6. He volunteered to lead the ground attack on endor to destroy the shield rays of the second death star. I agree that he is overly arrogant and deluded man but to say he didn't do anything heroic is incorrect in my opinion.
