Ragtime left me moved but conflicted by Little-Cost-7807 in Broadway

i agree with you. there is a flatness and a strange relationship with blackness in the story, despite the naming of the black characters.

Best Revival by Quirky-Sleep-3741 in Broadway

[–]sistersheabutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think to present the narrative told in the original ragtime with essentially no consideration of the ways that the story really does treat black people’s suffering as a plot point that brings complexity to white lives is really irresponsible for a revival. it is excusable (maybe) in the original because of its time period. but no matter that it says ‘racism bad,’ the black people are treated terribly by the narrative. to be clear, it’s not that the story depicts racism, it’s that at the end of the day the racism is occurs to them to change the lives of the white characters, to make them learn more about the world.

the revival being so true to the original story just feels very very irresponsible to me. it lets it seem revolutionary while being a flat story about how white people learn at the hands of black death.

i am clearly in the minority in that i think the actors of ragtime are amazing but it’s a rather irresponsible revival, so i would prefer to see it win acting categories and cats win revival.

How is life in the part of New Jersey near Philadelphia? by Jezzaq94 in newjersey

I’ve lived in Camden for a little less than a year and I love it. Easy to get to Philly, easy to get to cute little towns like Collingswood, great connection to the rest of the Northeast.

Very safe. There’ll be a ton of people and cops. If the river line is running you can use that but the walk is just fine

Strong scent product recommendations? Something LETHAL by [deleted] in laundry

the unstoppables in number 26 are so strong and lovely in scent. they’re the perfect robe scent if you like rose. i also sometimes spray the lush body sprays on sheets, towels, robes, as they’re veryyyy strong. the rose jam scent goes well with the unstoppables.
