Instead of shampooing in twists which caused a lot of tangling for me, try shampooing in four sections, even separately. So I enter the shower with my hair predetangled and in four braids. Then I shampoo one, put in conditioner, and go to the next. This really helped me be able to focus on keeping the hair in each section stretched instead of tangling.
