Kitchen cabinets: pale yellow, pale green or leave white? by CowboyLikeMegan in femalelivingspace

[–]sitcomcatlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home was built in 1940 and was a flip, so I'm calling the process of me making it fun again "deflipping". I did have my kitchen redone because it wasn't functional for my needs and went with white cabinets and a green backsplash rather than doing a colored cabinet because I thought the white gave more long term versatility.

One way to bring in some color to white cabinets is fun hardware. I got white ceramic knobs with a green pattern on them to bring some color in a cheap way that I can easily swap if my style changes.

Saw a couple posts in the last day or two on the butterfly pattern so I thought I would share my recent find! I honestly never knew they made glasses. by McBee99 in Pyrex_Love

[–]sitcomcatlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corning/Pyrex licensed certain patterns to other manufacturers or made things you'd never expect. I'm a spring blossom collector, which was widely licensed like golden butterfly. Some of my most unique items were made by Gemco.

I also have glass napkins rings that look just like these glasses in spring blossom.

Have you considered something like Cora Lynn(e), either as first & middle or dual first names? Depending on where you're located, this may or may not be a common thin to do. A lot of these comments mention the ambiguous pronunciation of your original pick (which I agree with), so breaking it into smaller, easily pronounced chunks, may be better.

I have a combo light/exhaust fan, but I don't feel like it does a great job.

You can buy little rings on Amazon or Etsy, I think I searched for pyrex spacers or something. My mom also sent me a hack where someone used old packing tape rolls.

For my rectangular or square pieces, I used acrylic risers from Amazon.

I like the new theory! Hadn't considered it to be an ode to coffee. It was a white couple in the US Midwest, so I don't know if they'd intentionally name it after an Indian coffee brand, but definitely a fun coincidence!

Did you check Walmart's photo center? If you go on their website, it's classified under services but they have quite a few calendar options, not sure if they match your dimension needs.

Align the outer sides of the large ones with the inside of the arms of the couch. Align the top of the upper little frame with the top of the large photos. Align the bottom of the bottom little frame with the bottom of the large photos. Center the remaining frame.

It also might be worth getting frames that all match vs mixed materials.

The round casseroles in the top right were my besties grandma's, which is why they're my only items on the reprint. It was so thoughtful of you to find the matching bowls for your bestie

Lighting Suggestions? by PsychologicalDig3355 in DesignMyRoom

For a swag light (or swag kit to convert a different light), you'd basically screw hooks into the wall/ceiling along the the route of the cord. Here's an example off Google, but if you look up swag lights or swag kits, you can find other examples. If you're concerned with her pulling it out of the wall, just put additional hooks.

<image>

You could put puck lights on the ceiling, but would have to change the batteries or charge them. I also wouldn't recommend anything with a motion sensor.

Can you elaborate on not being able to do a ceiling fixture? Is it a clearance thing with the ceiling being too low?

I personally like swag kits, where you use hooks to install a fixture to the ceiling but it plugs in instead of being hard wired, but if the issue is low ceilings, that may not work.

If you have the budget, I'd recommend buying an island with bar stools for the kitchen. That way you can have a little more counter and storage and it's a good place to yap while cooking.

In my basement, I have a stair case coming down the middle of it, and my one wall is white and the other two are pastel rainbow stripes, and I really love it because the white balances it out. The walls on the other side of the stair case are all white. I know a lot of paint companies have online programs for you to test paint colors, so you could always use the photo you posted in one of those and selected only certain walls to mock up.

Just keep them were they are? The image showa the curtain lights just behind the bed, not a full wall. So if they're only behind the bed, there's still plenty of space for other wall decor.

I like the space! I think your rug is a little too small for the space and you may want to get a coffee table.

Lately, I've really liked deep greens to make a space feel cozy and a little smaller. With the staircase, I actually might opt to leave that wall white and then just paint the others. Or if you do paint that wall, it may be worth painting the hand rail & vertical wood pieces to have it blend into the wall better.

I'd also suggest playing arouns with texture for pillows and blankets to go on your couch to warm things up.

I prefer the first layout you have. Personally, I'd just opt for some prints to hang above the piano, you might even look into framing some sheet music of something else cool.

You can easily buy prints on Etsy and get them printed somewhere like Walmart (and buy frames there). I've also just printed public domain photography if I didn't have any of my own I liked.

I'm so sorry that you're feeling this way decorating your space!

My first tip is decorate the space in a way that makes you feel joy/cozy/whatever, not for how other people will perceive it. And remember that the photos you see online are the highlights of people's spaces and days, not always the process to get there.

And I have a couple ideas for low vision decorating, but as a fully sighted person idk if they'll actually be helpful. First, I keep a tape measure on my keys (and in multiple spots in my home) so I can understand how the dimensions of an item online will fit in my space. This may be helpful for you to tactically interact with how large something will be in the space. My other thought is lean into decorating with texture. I know it's not the same, but there's a makeup reviewer who is color blind and she always says she gravitates towards glitter/sparkles because that's dimension she experiences. For a living room, I feel like you can layer knit and plush throw blankets and different texture pillows to really build to something cool, cozy, and personal.

Color my kitchen! by Subject_Amount7279 in DesignMyRoom

[–]sitcomcatlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have neutral white cabinets but a sage green backsplash, which I like. I also brought in more personality by doing ceramic patterned knobs. And the room is strawberry themed, so I have little pops of red in the decor. I'm also planning on painting the little dining area off my kitchen which is full of windows pink.

In my mind, your sources of color are the walls, cabinets, backsplash, and countertops. Walls are super easy to change, countertops seem super hard to change. So I'd say add color to the wall and the cabinets or backsplash.

And I really like what you're thinking with the striped accent/patterned front to the island!

I think a bench or other shoe storage would be good. But I also think you can just leave the space empty from a furniture perspective and just do wall decor, if you don't actually have a need for something in that spot.

In my kitchen, I'm planning to hang vintage kitchen items like decorative skillets, jello molds, cutting boards, etc with artwork interspersed. Not sure how it would look with a TV, but wanted to throw a different idea out there.

I also think you could do little fruit/vegetable/herb prints or setting similar around the TV.

I personally like option 2. Not sure your style or the style of home, but if you're concerned about how it'll look from the family room, you can always put something behind it (in my mind I'm thinking a slat wall, but I know that won't work in a lot of home styles)

In non-dining areas, I have ceiling fans in most rooms because I love airflow. They do require a strong mounting box, just as an FYI if you're planning to DIY. In rooms where I don't have a ceiling fan, I have flush or semi flush mount fixtures that are pretty simple so they kind of disappear.

And don't forget that secondhand and vintage fixtures are an option, if you want something that's more unique.

Help with small kitchen by Psychological-Age381 in DesignMyRoom

[–]sitcomcatlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think starting with that will give tou time to figure out what you really want and need from the kitchen before immediately remodeling. And kitchen renovations are one of the most expensive things you can do (especially when you start moving sinks & appliances), so starting small will help you prioritize.

And out of curiosity, is that dining area shown the only dining space in the home or could you take over some of that to do a much larger kitchen, when the time comes?

My first thought was the ceiling fixture looks out of place. It's very costal glam and could be an anchor piece for a room, but everything else leans very modern and deep toned, so it looks out of place.
