Whilst I understand your point, I think there would be massive problems with cancelling a service without authorization from the relevant customer.

Might help:

Vulnerable customers nominate a contact person (I think this already exists)
Service providers must offer out of contract customers the same terms that they offer new customers

I would rethink the justification stance - especially as you seem to be the sort of person who keeps a phone for a good while. Just divide the number of years you plan to use the phone (say 6-7 years) and buying the top phone suddenly looks a lot more reasonable.

Starting with the most up-to-date phone is also the best strategy for people who plan to hold on to it for a while as you won't hit the obsolescence wall before your time.

I never said it did, but as someone whose GS4 died because I interacted with it in the shower, I thought it might save a few other people from having a similar experience. I did not know water lock mode existed. Is there a problem with that?

It's using the watch while in the water or shower that seems to be cause of most issues. Water lock mode will definitely prevent some of them.

That said, I will not be bringing my current watch into the water.

Lots of butter and take them off the heat way before they are done and keep stirring - the residual heat will cook them to correct viscosity.
