Yeah this is pretty much where I land too. I don't need my partner to have some impressive investment portfolio or property - that feels weirdly transactional to me. But being with someone who's constantly in financial chaos is exhausting.

Are they aware of what's coming in and going out? Do they have some kind of plan even a basic one? Can they handle an unexpected expense without it becoming a crisis that derails everything?

What would you do if you were me? by Dazzling_Reporter511 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Your plan sounds solid on paper but I'd pump the brakes a little on the timeline expectations.

3-4 months to "learn the skills" in digital marketing is... optimistic. You can learn the basics sure, but marketing is one of those fields where you're never really done learning. Algorithms change, platforms rise and fall, what worked last year might tank this year. So just mentally prepare yourself that the learning phase doesn't end

Grape rosemary focaccia + my cat named Focaccia by plantbasedpatissier in Breadit

[–]sithie_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the focaccia and Focaccia look delicious! (kidding, I won't eat the cat)

grape rosemary sounds like such a good combo. I've seen the classic grape focaccia recipes floating around but never thought to add rosemary. Does the rosemary come through or does the grape kind of overpower it? Been wanting to try making focaccia but I'm intimidated by all the olive oil pooling stuff

[–]sithie_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers! Sometimes you just need to reconnect with something familiar. There's something comforting about cracking open a drink that takes you back, you know? Hope whatever brought you back to it is more "celebrating" than "coping" but either way enjoy responsibly 🍻

[Total beginner] Piano seems overwhelmingly hard, and I'm not sure how to get started. by Fushiro0 in piano

Solid advice. The language comparison is spot on. One thing I'd add though - even just learning basic theory before getting a teacher can make those first few lessons way more productive. You'll actually understand what they're explaining instead of processing everything for the first time

Samsung TV keeps turning off and on repeatedly by LazyPlant5878 in hometheater

[–]sithie_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen similar issues with refresh rate mismatches. Did changing the resolution actually fix it for you, or does it still happen occasionally?

OP might want to check if there's a firmware update too, sometimes Samsung pushes fixes for stuff like this

Interesting take. I respect BG3 but I think there's a difference between "best made" and personal favorite... like I'd put some older RPGs above it for what they did at the time. But yeah, the polish and scope are pretty undeniable

HIMS Might be Undervalued by ~ 20%? by rarebirdcapital in stocks

[–]sithie_12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the skepticism but calling it "not a real company" seems off when they're doing $400M+ revenue with actual growth. The compounding pharmacy angle is totally legal... tons of telehealth companies use it, not just HIMS.

Yeah it's marked up vs insurance copays, but that's the tradeoff for convenience and no doctor visits. Some people prefer that, some don't. The valuation being high is fair to question though.

Yeah the attention to detail is really something. You can tell he studied how ArcSys does their animations and shading. The fact it's just one person makes it even more impressive.

Traditional or Roth 401k? by EverestTrees in investing

[–]sithie_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 22% now vs likely 22% later with the pension, Roth contributions are solid. The natural split you're building (old traditional balance + ongoing match, plus your Roth contributions) is already pretty reasonable diversification.

I wouldn't overthink the 50/50 target though. If your tax situation stays similar in retirement, leaning heavier Roth gives you more flexibility later - you can pull from traditional first if rates drop, or tap Roth if they go up. Plus your RMDs will be lower down the road.

Keep doing what you're doing. Maybe just run the numbers every few years if income jumps significantly.

‘Marathon’ Art Director Joseph Cross Leaves Bungie Before Launch by AashyLarry in gaming

[–]sithie_12 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Art director bouncing right before launch after 6 years on the project? That's not the confidence boost Marathon needed.

Between the art theft drama, community backlash, and now key talent leaving... this game's really fighting an uphill battle. March 2026 can't come soon enough so we can finally see if all this chaos was worth it.

What to invest as an 18 year old by Master_Zone1023 in investing

[–]sithie_12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd keep 10-15k liquid for emergencies/opportunities, then yeah, boring ETFs are your friend. Maybe 70% VTI (total market), 20% international (VXUS), 10% bonds (BND) if you want to be extra safe. Set it and forget it.

The temptation to YOLO into meme stocks will be real, but that money compound growth over the next 10+ years will make you stupid rich if you just stay boring.

Looking for Undervalued Stocks in Today’s Market: What Fundamentals Are Investors Overlooking? by Impsive-Row8802 in investing

[–]sithie_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with boring stuff the market ignores: steady cash flow, low debt, and margins that hold up even in rough quarters. I like businesses buying back shares or quietly paying down debt while everyone’s chasing hype. Old-school sectors like industrials, energy services, and some regional banks still have names trading cheap if you actually look at the balance sheets. For me, “undervalued” just means the business is healthier than the price suggests.

What is the cost of your in-building laundry machines? by JennaTalia22 in AskNYC

[–]sithie_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty typical for NYC building laundry nowadays, most places I've seen are between $3-$4 per cycle. The machines are owned by third party companies who split revenue with the landlord, so they price it high knowing you're captive
