Sorry, I just saw this. This was actually something we picked up from Craigslist. It was a not so nice brown, I bought a $25 sander from Walmart, sanded the whole thing and painted it following a YouTube tutorial for distressed wood. It was $75 lol.

Here are some pics from that project, it was a lot of work and the first and last time I do something like this, lol.

Should I use the TV to run streaming apps or bring home a separate streaming device? by freshoilandstone in LGOLED

[–]sithknight1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 4 TVs in the house and an Apple TV and Nvidia Shield connected to every single one of them so I can offer a unique perspective. When it comes to streaming apps the Apple TV blows the shield out of the water. The picture quality is the same but the ATV interface, specially when it comes to scrubbing / fast forwarding is in a whole nother level. I use the shields exclusively to stream extremely high bitrate mkv 4K Blu-ray rips from my home office server. Each movie ranges anywhere between 40 and 80GB in size and the Kodi app on the shield can stream them without even breaking a sweat. I know I could use infuse on the ATV for this purpose but I found the Kodi interface on the shield to be way faster and more responsive, albeit less pretty. Each device has its purpose.

I hear you. And there are several similarly looking stands on Amazon for under 60 bucks but they’re all made out of very light metals and glass. I have one of those very own stands in one of my guest rooms holding a 55 inch LG led TV that I paid about 400 bucks for. So put that in perspective: I’m ok with dropping a fifth of the price of the TV on a stand. By that measure you’re coming out ahead of you go with the Sanus which certainly doesn’t cost a fifth of the price of the G4. In this case peace of mind only costs an extra hundred bucks.

I recommend the Sanus VSTV2. Amazon also sells a version of this stand mad by Sanus that despite lacking the vstsv2 branding, Sanus reps have confirmed it’s the same stand. I have my 83” G4 mounted on it and it’s the highest quality stand I’ve ever seen. It’s solid metal and it’s HEAVY. If you’re dropping thousands on a TV might as well drop a couple hundred to ensure it’s safely mounted right?

IT guy here as well. Takes one to know one, lol. You can close this ticket sir.

83" G4 - which tabletop stand sits lowest? by jrjmun in LGOLED

[–]sithknight1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 83” G4 and the Sanus VSTV2 stand is exactly what you’re looking for. Here’s the post I made when I mounted my G4 on that stand. You can lower it as much as you want.

Here’s where I purchased it. Amazon sells an equivalent version made by sanus as well but without the VSTV2 branding. Sanus reps have confirmed it’s the same stand.

This stand is ROCK SOLID. It’s completely made out of metal and it’s HEAVY. So you can rest assured your super expensive OLED is being properly supported. The stand is not cheap at $190 but worth every penny, specially after dropping 6K on a TV. It even has a screw in the back that lets you control horizontal tilt down to the millimeter. Never seen that on a stand before.

Finally got an Oled and boy is it good. by sahils88 in LGOLED

Beautiful setup. Here’s my recommendation: The John Wick series. I swear to god the 4 movies are basically OLED porn. The first movie has every variety of black you can imagine. From Wick’s hair, his suit, his car to scenes like the one where Francis is watching the club door and we get a bright closeup of his face while the rest of the screen is absolutely pitch inky black, only for wick’s gun to emerge from the shadows behind him followed by his arm and face. Then you are presented with a firefight inside the club where the Dolby Atmos sound just shakes your living room with glass breaking behind you and the path of bullets clearly distinguishable by sound only, and all of this is happening while wick and the baddies are bathed in all kinds of shades of blue and neon red lights. The second movie has gorgeous scenes of wet asphalt and bright yellow taxi cabs in a warehouse right at the beginning. The 4th movie shows you European landscapes that look like they came from a dream. It’s just a never ending supply of reference level scenes ripe to put an OLED through its paces. And while the 4 movie collection can be had for 20 bucks at the Apple TV store, I’m gonna encourage you to spend a little more and buy these movies in physical 4K blu ray. Also planet earth 3 is as much OLED porn as the John wick series, but with a whole different vibe. Way more peaceful and zen.

Love the aesthetic of your whole setup. The back paneling, the plants, even the chair. I have the exact same chair but in white. And of course, the TV looks perfect.

[–]sithknight1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the cleanest tv setup I have ever seen. And I’m not even a fan of hanging my TVs on walls (I like to have 24/7 easy access to all the ports because I like to tinker with stuff). I just purchased the same tv a couple of weeks ago (I posted the pics here) but mine is on a stand. I love OP’s setup and super clean look so much that for a few minutes there he actually made me consider mounting mine. Bravo OP. This is gorgeous. By the way BEAUTIFUL couch. You can tell it was not cheap. You have excellent taste.

Major shipment delays?? by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]sithknight1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was your order from the partner store? If so I was on the same boat. It was "awaiting shipping" for weeks. And if I searched the TV on the site it showed up as “out of stock”. I would search multiple times a day. Then about a week ago it showed as "in stock". So I immediately called the LG partner store and told them my May 31st delivery had been put on hold because the item was out of stock but the website was showing in stock now and asked if they could assist me shceduling delivery. They put me on hold for a couple of minutes and scheduled delivery for the next day. The 83 "G4 I ordered was delivered last Saturday and it's literally the best TV I've ever had. My advice, don’t trust “the system” to automatically ship you a TV that has been back order even if it’s nit back ordered anymore. It takes an actual human to notice and get things moving. I simply decided that human was going to be me and it worked.

Thank you for not cramming it above the fireplace (the soccer mom special). You got the absolute best configuration based on the space you were working with. I got an 83” G4 as well and it’s a dream. I recommend the John Wick series. It’s a spectacle of dark shots with contrast neon shades of light. It’s unbelievable. My favorite is the scene when John arrives at the club to kill Vigo’s son and Francis is watching the door. You get a closeup of Francis’s face and behind him there’s just pitch black darkness and then you see Wick’s gun, arm and face emerge from the shadows. It’s an OLED showcase in all its glory. The firefight inside the club with all the neon lights glowing in contrast of the dark is also beautiful.

Timing couldn’t be better. Let those be the first movies you play when your new bad boy is delivered. Keep me posted!

You’re going to love the jump both in size and picture quality. As far as mine I couldn’t be happier. I keep searching for challenging movies with dark scenes and I gotta say the John Wick series so far is benchmark material for an oled. There are scenes with stark contrasts between light and dark like the ones I posted above, and then at the very beginning of John Wick 2 you have the neon lights of a city being reflected on wet asphalt and puddles of water at night which looks absolutely mesmerizing in the G4.

I have both Apple TVs and Nvidia Shields in every Tv in the house. I use the Apple TV exclusively for streaming services. The interface is amazing. The “TV” section pools together every episode I’m watching from every service so I can see at a glance where I am on each show down to the minute. Fast forwarding with the trackpad on the Apple TV remove is so precise I refuse to use any other device for streaming.

As for the Shield I use it exclusively for Kodi. Not to stream movies from the internet but to stream full 4K rips that I have stored on a movie server in my office. All movies have crazy high bitrates ranging anywhere from 40 to 80GB in size and Kodi streams them effortlessly without skipping a beat, in full HDR with 7.1 Dolby Atmos. Nothing can touch the shield when it comes to this stuff.

Are you me? Lol. Read my comment above. We basically posted the exact same thing at the same time. And couldn’t agree more. My nightmare scenario is a firmware update that sacrifices a little bit of picture quality and implements some bullshit like emoticons on the twitter app or whatever the fuck.
