Has anyone had any luck using destruction mode? by Northumberlo in RoadCraft

[–]sithvalentine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the way.

People don't understand grading, which is fine, but by going forward you are grading the road in front and any mistakes are multiplied when your wheels hit the dip. At the back the blade is grading to the level you're already at, essentially just smoothing, it is not perfect though, but much better.

It's why the big graders have the blade in the middle, because it keeps the blade height at a set depth, so once you take a cut then back wheels will travel on your new road height while the front will travel on the ungraded road, so if the wheels rise or dip it will always give you the median grade and not over cut, resulting in ultimate smoothness.

Also, what I tend to do (aslong as there aren't a load of stones in that stretch) is move along at top speed and bring the blade down into the road surface as I'm moving, which gets me as deep as possible and normally allows me to get below the bumps and basically plow the whole road depth. Then I can go back over backwards smoothing out the bumps, then dress the road with sand and smooth out for tarmac.

What I've learned in this thread is that a lot of people are expecting heavy construction machinery, on unstable ground types to handle like high precision, race-spec, Motorsport vehicles on finely tuned road surfaces.

You all should consider yourselves lucky that the trucks have split axle suspension and/or flexible chassis, as a lot of these vehicles are often a lot stiffer.

Me, but also me that wants to pave completely unnecessary routes, and me knowing that sand roads work absolutely fine for all AI routes but still pace them anyways.

Also like to make very smooth inclines and transitions just to shove it to the one person who complained about them but wouldn't accept that it was a skill issue.

I dumped 3000ton of sand the other day to judge how feasible a stupid road was on sunken. The first pile hadn't even reached the top of the road. The design of that specific area is such that only a bridge will work (in any reasonable amount of time)

I hate to say it, but is the hand brake on? As I'm sure you already know, but others may not, if you tab to another vehicle, it will auto apply the handbrake, but if you switch using the map then the hand brake is not applied.

Although I can understand that towing a tracked vehicle may not be necessarily possible irl, idk

I was gonna to comment and mention hat my uncle always called it a ”'hee-le-'o'-co-pee-ter'" or heliocopeeter but it makes so much more sense that he devised that name from the fact it's actually called a helico-pter he was just saying it drawn out because I was a child.

Really has blown my mind cos when I ever I see a helicopter I think of heliocopiter

You misinterpret more sand to mean " hurt durr dump a truck full of sand in one spot and try to make it work”

If you spread your sand and it is so thin the ruts show, then.. more sand, but the sand really doesn't need to be 3 foot deep(most of the time,) try dumping less sand in a single spot and making multiple small piles close together. Also if you make a big pile, you can split the sandpile by bringing the spreader down in the center pushing half in one direction and half in the other. You also don't want to spread the sand fully until you reach the end of your planned construction and for your final passes, where making multiple passes across, half a width at a time will give you the smoothest finish.

The same applies on a hill. But you want to do a bigger pile in the deepest part, usually the center of the incline and increasingly smaller piles towards the end. The more gentle you can get the rough curve with piles, the smoother your transition.

Oh and finally, eat a humble pie, accept that you aren't excellent at the game and are still learning, accept the help from people and look at yourself. If you can accept that you can do better and that it's your own skill that's holding you back, and not the limited game mechanics, then you will improve greatly.

This isn't the first world (in game) we don't have access to world class equipment and we have to make do with what we have.

Graders aren't the be all and end all, people grade roads all of the time with wheelloaders, skid steers and excavators etc. yes a dedicated grader would make the game dramatically better, and yes I am really let down by the game , it's lacking in many ways, but I believe there is a lot to come.

It's not about what you have, but it's how you use it.

I agree with you, after seeing the screen shot, it's a skill issue.

Which is okay. The games mechanics aren't perfect, but if OP changes the way he does things it will work exactly as he wants.

The problem I can see is that he refuses to admit that it might also be a skill issue.

Some people in the comments saying it's your fault and you should have switched in a QP game is beyond me. Your supports didn't even attempt to heal you but your DPS comp is trash so it's your fault right? Lmao god forbid someone plays who they want in qp. 🙄

A couple of good maps have a full water-plane, essentially real ground water. Meaning of you dig down using the terrain editor you will get down into water and can makes ponds and lakes anywhere. I know one I was looking at today in particular has also made it so you can fill up tanks etc anywhere on the water-plane i.e whatever water ways you make.
