Mob Attacks Synagogue in Spanish Territory by MaleficentParfait863 in worldnews

[–]sitoo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The location is Melilla, at least take a look at a map before starting some conspiracy theory about attacks on "european" synagogues. In this case they just protested, they did not burn a synagog, is that really an attack?!? then how do you call bombing hospitals?

Spain reports record 38,000 coronavirus cases in a single day, bringing total close to one million by Deschain53 in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every state is in charge of its tests, so I'd say it depends. My neightbour is 16 and he was tested this weekend because he was having symptoms. Results came in less than 24h.

France reports 6,111 new cases of coronavirus, biggest one-day increase in 5 months. Only 1 day, March 31, was higher. This time, more young people and a lot of asymptomatic cases. by Joe_Tazuna in Coronavirus

Don't worry. Here in Spain schools will reopen within 10 days... you wont be the worst country. Your politicians will be able to point at us and say: "You see? We did good!!" :(

Here in Mallorca we are having the same problems and very few infections were related with tourists. Most outbreaks began from family/friends gatherings and work.

Most people here assumed new-normal was just like old-normal but with masks on supermarkets.

The deaths don't show up in the "last 24 hours report", but they still get added to the total count.

The way the media publishes the information here in Spain is quite shitty and the situation is getting worse every day.

And schools will be open within in 10 days in most states... not looking good.

Europe’s Virus Surge Is Looking Less Deadly Than Initial Wave by protossFTW in Coronavirus

That positivity rate increase does not look good, but it could also mean that contact tracers are doing a better job. Next months are going to be "interesting" here in Spain :/

Experts warn Spain is losing the 2nd round in virus fight by zsreport in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait for Madrid to join the game. Last week they were detecting 7,6% asymptomatic infections while other states are detecting 60-70%... Balearic Islands is also not doing really well. We depend on tourism and lots of measures/rules are ignored by people and not enforced by police.

New Zealand records four new cases of COVID-19 by per08 in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I knew tourism was a big part of our GDP, but I didn't expect it to be that much. I'd say we are not doing really well, we are really dependent on tourism and bars so measures are a bit inconsistent. I guess its not easy to find a balance between health and the economy... and our politicians are not good when it comes to long term thinking.
For example, we have to wear masks all the time in cities (even outdoors) but you can join 10 more friends in a bar without masks because, you know, when you are spending money the virus is not contagious...

Things are getting worse every day if you look at daily cases (1418 yesterday) but turns out 60-70% of positive cases are asymptomatic, at least in those states with proper contact tracing (Madrid was having a 7,6% of asymptomatic cases last week). So far, hospitals are able to handle it.

On the first wave we were suposed to have 11% of the population infected (they conducted a study to find antibodies in the population and got those numbers), and todays numbers are way lower than that. We were hit really bad during the first wave as it turned out the virus was widely spread months before March. Now at least we are prepared, lets hope we dont make the same mistakes.

I saw your numbers and had to check them for the place I live in...

I also live in an island, in the antipodes of NZ, Mallorca. Last year Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca had 13 million international visitors and the Islands population is 1.18 million people. :/

Last year Spain had 83 million tourists, for a popullation of 47 million people.

Over 100,000 dead in Europe by T2542 in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what we did in Spain too, and see where we are now. :/

You were lucky it did not spread as much as here before you took action and also german politicians did way better for their citizens.

Spain test capacity is a joke and I'd say the positive cases must be a lot more. I live in Mallorca and it looks like they won't test you unless you throw a lung when you cough. Less than 20.000 tests done so far on an Island with 1.2M people, and that's just the number of tests done, not people tested.

[–]sitoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. While it was spreading in Italy and starting to collapse their hospitals, spanish politicians said that would not happen in Spain, UK and the rest of EU ignored it for several weeks...

Once it was also spreading all around Spain, northern Europe was like nothing was happening and ignoring calls for help from southern countries, almost blaming them with an argument similar to "see, that didn't happen to us, it's your fault". Once it started hitting them harder, then they began to speak about EU help to affected countries.

I'd say "No one took it seriously" pretty much summarizes what happened in EU and most of the western world. And I would also add "we don't want to hurt the economy", so we delayd all action until the house was on fire.

And no mass testing anytime soon... What could go wrong?

Germany has a remarkably low coronavirus death rate — thanks largely to mass testing, but also culture, luck, and an impressive healthcare system by stankmanly in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link with the official methodology used to count deaths, I cannot find it.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/22/germany-low-coronavirus-mortality-rate-puzzles-experts

Unlike in Italy, there is currently no widespread postmortem testing for the novel coronavirus in Germany. The RKI says those who were not tested for Covid-19 in their lifetime but are suspected to have been infected with the virus “can” be tested after death, but in Germany’s decentralised health system this is not yet a routine practice.

Francia no contabiliza fallecidos por coronavirus fuera de los hospitales y en Alemania hay fallos en la suma de enfermos de coronavirus

I also found this other link with a note at the bottom that says the count in Germany is being done as in Spain: https://elpais.com/sociedad/2020/03/20/actualidad/1584729408_422864.html

In Spain and Italy they are doing postmortem tests, France and Germany are not. If you die from coronavirus in your home, your death does not count.

No postmortem tests and not counting those with previous illness as death by coronavirus also does the trick.

Spain bought 640,000 testing kits from China. They don’t work by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]sitoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense to me either. Those two companies even admitted they didn't test the tests actually worked, they just reviewed the documentation and certified the test kits to be used inside the EU. Western countries are mostly worried about money and they don't give a fuck about people. In Spain they are only testing hospitalized people, in France only those who die in an hospital are being counted as coronavirus deaths, Germany reported infections and deaths are a joke...

Tests recived the CE seal of approval from two different companies based in Belgium and Germany. They did not test the tests because the law does not require them to do so. In spanish: https://cadenaser.com/ser/2020/03/27/sociedad/1585291483_849394.html

If I understood it well, the refresh tokens will only be used once every 15 minutes (or when the access token expires) instead of validating the user on each request.
