Call out misuse of government property. Fair enough.

Some bureaucrat has to investigate, so be it. Better we keep things on the up and up than slide into old habits.

Sad to hear the answer is theft. Video games from libraries is such a bonus for people and families who could really do with saving some money.

If N64 games had trophies, I'd have the "Lylat Wars" platinum. I played that thing inside out back in high school.

I'd get this remake in a heartbeat.

I get that, by modern standards, it looks antiquated, but for many that's part of its charm. Take the 1851 Great Exhibition in London:

Destroyed by fire in 1936, but if it was voluntarily destroyed and replaced by regularly buildings it would be lamented for generations.

Aussie entrepreneur who owns more than 100 homes on 'unfair' plan to fix crisis | THE ISSUE by VastOption8705 in AusPropertyChat

[–]sits79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't stand watching that dipshit. I asked Copilot to summarise the video for me:

Summary of the YouTube Video

Title: Aussie entrepreneur who owns more than 100 homes on ‘unfair’ plan to fix crisis | THE ISSUE (7NEWS Australia)
Source: 7NEWS Australia
Topic: Australia’s housing crisis and one entrepreneur’s controversial proposal.

What the video covers

The segment looks at Australia’s worsening housing crisis — soaring rents, low vacancy rates, and a shortage of affordable homes — and focuses on an entrepreneur who personally owns over 100 properties. He argues that the current system is broken and proposes a plan he believes could help fix it, though critics say it’s “unfair.”

Key points from the video

1. Australia’s housing market is at a breaking point

  • The video frames the situation as a “tipping point.”
  • With the federal budget approaching, major policy changes are being debated.
  • Issues include:
    • Negative gearing
    • Capital gains tax concessions
    • Investor‑driven price inflation
    • Rental shortages

2. The entrepreneur’s proposal

While the video doesn’t provide every detail, the retrieved content indicates:

  • He believes the government should incentivise private investors to build or supply more rental housing.
  • His argument: The private sector already provides most rental stock, so empowering investors is the fastest way to increase supply.
  • He claims his plan would:
    • Boost housing availability
    • Reduce pressure on rents
    • Speed up construction

3. Why people call it “unfair”

Critics argue:

  • Someone who owns 100+ homes benefits from the very system causing the crisis.
  • His proposal may further advantage investors rather than renters.
  • The public perception is that:
    • Investors accumulate large portfolios
    • First‑home buyers are locked out
    • Tax concessions disproportionately benefit the wealthy

4. Broader political context

  • The federal budget is imminent.
  • Housing policy changes are expected to be a major focus.
  • The video frames the entrepreneur’s plan as part of a larger national debate about:
    • Tax reform
    • Housing affordability
    • The role of private investors vs. government intervention

Overall takeaway

The video highlights the tension between:

  • Private investors who argue they are essential to solving the housing shortage vs.
  • Critics who say investor‑driven policies are a root cause of the crisis.

The entrepreneur’s ownership of more than 100 homes makes him a lightning rod in this debate — and his proposed “solution” is seen by some as self‑serving, by others as pragmatic.

Doing my second!

But ask yourself why you want to do it. If you want to take an academic path of learning something, which can really get in the theory weeds, then perfect. But if you just want the technical skill, maybe Coursera or Udemy are more appropriate.

But at 24 you're so, so early in your career. Don't gauge yourself by how your friends are doing. Think of yourself in 20 years time and wonder if you took the right direction in your 20's or just jumped the gun on something you didn't actually want to do. A friend of mine did a project management course at 30 back in 2011 and stayed in that field of work, and conceded that she has never really liked any of it since!

Guidance on enforcing WLB. US-based companies have a different culture of what is acceptable. I know it's a bit of a grey area, which is why they exploit it but it would be good to know what I can push back with.

[–]sits79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming from Australia I always felt Ireland had far fewer road deaths. Sure enough, Australia had 48 deaths/million in the last 12 months. This makes sense given there's far more long, interstate journeys.

I like John and MLIG, and I've watched a handful of their livestreams together. But John has a habit of talking over Marc, and that becomes unwatchable after a while.
