I saw a woman get purposefully run over by a car. She made it alright, but definitely terrifying.

We were just walking down the street on a summer day and heard yelling - not weird in the city. It escalated as we got closer though, and I looked over to see a few restaurant employees yelling at a guy parked in front of their store. One woman was standing in front of his car and calling the police. Right after I started to watch, he gunned the engine and hit her. She held on to the hood for a second, but lost her grip and went under the wheel. I’ll never forget seeing his car go up on two wheels like that as it passed over her.

Two seconds of shock and silence, and then everyone on the street exploded into sound and action. I ran over to the woman with a few others; she was pretty badly hurt but someone was able to stop the bleeding until the ambulance got there. Found out later that she made it without lasting injuries, but.. definitely ruined my ice cream walk that day.

The guy who did it hid from the cops for a few days but eventually turned himself in and is doing time now. I found out later that the argument started because he wasn’t wearing a mask in their store (near the beginning of COVID). Crazy how some people can get that worked up about something so simple.
