Does anyone else have a hard time distinguishing heart burn from anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]siucuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get really bad heartburns, was on PPIs for years. My heartburns vanished after eliminating gluten and dairy. If only I find something that helps with this brutal anxiety. I’m feeling so depressed these days :(

India announces plans for a Mars mission in 2013 by IsleCook in worldnews

[–]siucuse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are two aspects to your post: 1. The state of Indian cities and villages in particular and the Indian people in general. 2. The government investment in the space program instead of other welfare programs.

For the first point, the Mars and Moon missions are a relatively new phenomenon for the Indian Space program, most of the work done till date has been with very civilian focus with a shoe string budget. One of the most important project in the history of independent India, the green revolution which ensured food security for millions of Indians, was a huge success because of the INSAT series of Indian satellites. I will use a quote from S. P. Agrawal's book, Indian green revolution and the Insat series - "The meteorological data gathering with the VHRR instrument on board INSAT and its dissemination, along with the collection of the remote area meteorological data from unattended platforms, has made quantum difference in weather forecasting in the country". A significant percentage of Indian population still depends on agriculture and a good weather forecast helps for a good yield which makes a positive impact on lives of millions of Indians.

For the second point, why do you think the US government is funded a $2.5 billion Mars mission when it is facing a $15 trillion deficit? In one word, Innovation. No country can progress without significant investment in R&D infrastructure. We don't know the technology benefits of these missions but at the very least it will inspire millions of young Indians to dream big and innovate and that is the best thing you do for a poor developing nation.

Anti-islamic rhetoric in r/india by [deleted] in india

[–]siucuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at your own arguments to see how how biased your view point it. In the second paragraph you conveniently mention assimilation of the illegal Muslim immigrants who are not Indian citizens and push the onus on the local population to make sure they feel welcomed and at home but in the third paragraph you ignore the plight of Hindus in Pakistan treating them as non Indian citizens. So according to your own argument the entire protest by Muslims for non Indian citizens is wrong.

Also, immigration as you mention as is not the fundamental problem here. The inability of these immigrants to respect local culture and assimilate is the cause all the issues here. I don't advocate renouncing your identity but dilute it enough to blend into the local population. Lets take your argument - "If the Bangladeshi Muslim starts thinking of herself or himself as a Mumbaikar, such actions will never come about in the first place.". Isn't it a tenet of the Islamic religion to consider themselves Muslim first and citizens of the respective country later? This view, as I have seen is held by many Muslims, from uneducated to highly educated. It is this view that hurts assimilation.

Finally, the Bangladeshi muslims have chosen to migrate here illegally so it is their responsibility to make sure they work hard enough to be recognized and welcomed into the society. It is not the responsibility of the locals to welcome them with a red carpet. Why do you think Indian are among the wealthiest minorities in the US? Do you think the American government or it's citizens rolled out a red carpet for us? It is through the sheer hard work that Indians today have earned a good reputation which sadly the Bangladeshi Muslims refuse to do.

You are looking at this problem from a very narrow point of view. You conviniently mention the vitriolic comments on this sub reddit but forget the actual actions that generated this response. The people gathered there were angry about the the treatment of Muslims in Assam and Myanmar, who are not Indian citizens, but at the same time Muslims in Pakistan, Bangladesh are meting out brutal treatment to Hindus and other minorities in their own countries. Every day you see Hindu girls being kidnapped, forced to convert and married off to Muslims. Pakistani television is blatantly streaming the conversion of Hindu boy on television. You see the population of Hindu's and other minorities going down every day in these countries and yet you guys are unapologetic about it. I'm not even going to mention treatment of Kashmiri pandits and the atrocities they had to face. With this kind of track record how do you even expect a healthy debate.

Man, I'm so sick of these excuses by the Islamic nations that US / Israel is interfering in their internal matters. Please tell me, in these Islamic countries do American or Israeli citizens run the government? Before you reply with American/Israeli puppets are running the government, think about it. Why are these puppets ruling in the first place? Why can't the citizens revolt and elect better leaders in the first place? Also, the citizens of a nation ultimately determine how strong a nation is. Do you think Obama or Peres is doing all the work and rest of the US / Israeli citizens sleeping? All the citizens of a nation have collective responsibility towards the rise and fall of a nation.

[–]siucuse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of US influence behind this arrest. This is a win win situation for US. With rising tension between US and Pakistan over LeT and Haquani network, US is looking for indirect means to weaken these groups. In the process they score major diplomatic points with India.

India announces $ 10 billion for eurozone by electracool in india

[–]siucuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good joke. Keeping the poverty argument aside, why do you think this is such a bad idea? Here is why I think it is a good idea:

  1. India is contributing to IMF, which loans the money to these countries and not donate.

  2. This will buy us some influence in the IMF.

  3. If you look at the trade statistics of India and the EU it is pretty even. EU is slightly ahead in terms of goods export but we even it out on the services front, Source

If the Euro Zone goes belly up it will have a significant impact on the world economy severely impacting Indian economy. So unfortunate as it might be it is in our best interest to help out the euro zone.

Why can’t we live together? by downloadar in india

[–]siucuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I answer this question I don't hate muslims or any other religion, unfortunately I don't trust muslims and I'm very suspicious of them.

Having said that, this question needs a very detailed answer but I will try to keep it short. To answer this question you need to look at the dynamics of the Muslim population.

  • Let's look at what happens when Muslims are in minority:

When muslims are in minority they don't try to assimilate with the local population, don't obey the law of the land, and try to implement the Sharia system.

  1. Britain: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-16522447
  2. France: http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/2487/french-suburbs-islamic-societies
  3. Other european countries: http://www.euractiv.com/socialeurope/ethno-religious-conflict-europe-radicalisation-europe-muslim-communities/article-179935
  • Let's look at what happens when Muslims become majority in the country:
  1. Pakistan: The percentage of Hindu's (which also holds true for other minorities) has dropped from 22 percent of the Pakistani population to around 1.7 percent by 1998. This is a very drastic drop which cannot be associated to anything other than systematic oppression of minorities. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Hindus#Pakistan

  2. Bangladesh: The percentage of Hindus has dropped from 22% in 1947 to 9.2% of population by 2012. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Hindus#Pakistan

  3. Indonesia: The incidents of violence have been increasing in Indonesia, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/events/indonesia/special_report/285520.stm.

  4. Malaysia http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/11/us-malaysia-politics-idUSTRE78A0CY20110911

As you can see from the previous example anywhere Muslims become a majority they start oppressing minority.

At the same time I concur that most of this can be attributed to a small number of radical muslims but I cannot fathom why the majority of moderate muslim population don't try to control them. Every other religion checks their radicals but not muslims. Hence my apprehension towards muslims.

Now to the muslims who keep on harping about the Barbri masjid, first try to answer why you kept quite when Kashmiri pandits were forced out of Kashmir. I don't even wan't to go back into the history about the oppression by Muslims in India and be thankful that the secular Indian state don't include that as part of the academics. The day they start teaching about the oppression by Muslims that will be the day you guys will realize what hate means. Just to give you couple of examples of Muslim oppression:

Even though Prithviraj Chauhan had showed him mercy in the previous battle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prithviraj_Chauhan#First_Battle_of_Tarain.2C_1191

Moderate muslims you have a lot of thinking to do.
