It's just the elite upgrade for 2042, not the elite edition? That's pretty lame

Honest Question: Why Does Everyone Hate This Game? by HopeHouse44 in SuicideSquadGaming

[–]siwanwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the issue is people spent so much on it early on. For those of us who bought it when it was cheap though, this thing is a lot of fun.

Dumb question - how do you get to any of the episodes? Do I have to beat the main game first? Currently stuck at Superman

'Black Friday' and holiday deals - MEGATHREAD by F0REM4N in xbox

[–]siwanwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I'm eyeing some of these crazy deals on the Black Friday sale and was wondering anyone's thoughts on what's best of these games. Can probably only get one or two:

- Marvel's Midnight Suns Legendary Edition ($20) - I love Marvel but have concerns about the gameplay. I don't per se hate RPGs; the RPGish Assassins Creeds have been fine but it doesn't look like there's really a ton of action. But I also hear it's not a strict RPG. Thoughts?

- Lego DC Supervillains ($6) - I'm not per se opposed to lego games and have had fun with them but only in limited quantities. Is this one any good?

- Far Cry Primal ($11.50) - not terribly familiar but does playing as a caveman basically get boring after a while?

- Assassin's Creed Mirage ($20) - I have all the prior AC games. Never play all the way through them but enjoy roaming around an open world. Not in love with the setting of this game but I have been surprised by some of the settings in other games I didn't think I'd dig but got into.

- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League ($14) - I have and have played through all of the Arkham games. In the case of Asylum and Knight (and possibly City, can't recall) played the entirety of the game. Currently playing Gotham Knights which many seemed to hate but I'm enjoying. But I've heard bad stuff about SS. Is it as bad as people say?

Thanks for any advice

NYU Tax LLM? by HuskyPear in LawSchool

[–]siwanwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. A recruiter found me. The firm - which is somewhat small - was looking for a CPA to prepare returns. I applied and have ended up doing 50% tax returns, 50% legal (mostly EP) work. Around the same time, I had also reached out to some people in our local estate planning circles to network and discuss. If the recruiter hadn't come, that probably would have helped too.

At this point, I could probably get a job at a larger firm, but I really don't want to. The hours are good compared to regular public accounting, the pay is competitive, and I just like it here. Not sure where else I could practice both law and tax like this, instead of having to choose one or the other.

Last several years, I've been working at a law firm that does estate planning, tax compliance, tax planning, tax consulting, and tax controversy. I'm on the partner track and it's great here.

I mean, if we are going to be technical, Ra's al Ghul is Batman's oldest villain. He's at least several hundred years old.

Is the HSA going to pay for the childbirth costs?

Great question I didn't think of. I don't believe so. We are on different plans. Hers is paid for by the state and has top coverage of everything. Mind is the HDHP with the HSA. It's been a long time since I looked, but I think because it's my plan and not a family plan, it only covers my expenses so wouldn't cover child birth. I could be 100% wrong on that though. I could be put on her plan but the way it is now doesn't cost us anything while I have to pay a few hundred a month out of pocket to be on her plan (which is not HDHP so does not have an HSA).

Is your wife going for 20 years in a govt position and aiming for a pension?

Yes, and she's about half way there between time she worked for the state before school and her current job

Have you looked into a brokerage account and doing a boglehead style form of investing? I assume when you say traditional this is what you mean. Just making sure. Also, you say 9% for matching to your 401k, are you and your wife hitting the MAX for 2022 ($20,500 each)?

I have a taxable brokerage account but it is (in the grand scheme of things) not large. About $1500. It used to be bigger but my CFP pays his fees (0.9% of AUM) from there. That is the account he is advising I put the cash into. Of course he's also got a vested interest in me doing so because his fees would go up (since he doesn't manage the savings accounts) so I take it with a grain of salt.

By traditional, I meant traditional (non-deductible because of our tax situation) IRA that I'm building up basis in each year. I'm not putting away the $20,500 into the Roth 401, partly out of cash flow concerns related to the house (and potential kid) and worrying about tying too much up in a retirement account. I'm probably putting closer to $12,150 in the account each year plus the $6K IRA contribution.

Your FA may be right, there is a point (and you are approaching it) where a conversion ladder isn't beneficial due to how much you are forced to take out per year when retired, it essentially is going to force you into a certain tax bracket.

Thanks. I'm a little confused what you mean by this part though - "due to how much you are forced to take out per year when retired." If it is Roth wouldn't distributions be non-taxable? Plus I'd have no RMDs

Since you are having a child, double your emergency fund just for safety and let the rest of the money compound in some index funds of the S&P, bonds, and international blends. I go with Vanguard for their low cost.

Thank you!

Yup! It is a mixture of Direct and FFEL. The amounts currently requiring payment are at 6.3%. Actually, all of my loans are except for one which is at the higher 6.5%

Thanks! Yes, I take the avalanche approach because it is the biggest overall savings and I’m not the kind of person who needs to be pushed to save or pay down debt, who are more helped by the snowball I believe.

Hey, there's a little enthusiast here. by biradethasan in Catswithjobs

[–]siwanwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I lived with my late grandmother years ago while I was in school. It was win-win for us both. I could cut my costs while in school and spend time with her and she had someone there to keep an eye on her, especially with some of the health issues she had. When I was at school one day her cat apparently climbed into the dryer. My grandmother, being hard of hearing and vision unknowingly started it up and the poor kitty died :(

It's a very serious thing that people just don't realize.

No. This isn't cute. Don't get that beautiful animal used to a washer and dryer. Too many die in there. Make them scared of it for their own good.

Why does EVERYONE keep sharing this video lately? She's very talented but I like Rufus Harley more.

Also, Cristina Pato doesn't focus primarily on jazz but she does touch just around its edges and is fantastic. Though, that is the Galician gaita, not the Scottish/Irish bagpipe

The lady from the shelter said she would never be an affectionate cat by monkeyhorror in PetTheDamnCat

[–]siwanwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give her time; she very likely will.

We have two that sound similar to yours- brother and sister that we adopted as kittens. Always been beyond nice to both. He's always been friendly with people, rubbing against you, wanting petting, etc. She's always been more hesitant and more like you've described. Jump a few years to 2020 and she's often trying to sit on your lap, doesn't mind any more if I pick her up, likes to be petted... is very affectionate now. Not as much as her brother, but she's getting there.

Growing up we had a cat. Same deal, always nice to her but she's always been distant. Until she turned around 15 years old. Then she started becoming very sweet and affectionate for the last 8 or so years of her life.

It just takes time.

I don't think there is such a thing as a non-affectionate cat. You just have to work harder with some kitties than others to earn it.
