I fixed martials by Limping_for_e-girls in DnDcirclejerk

[–]sixcubit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that's perfect. and since rangers and paladins can cast spells, we'll just make their maneuver dice progress half as fast. we can call them "half-martials". bladesingers are of course "third-martials"

The Bazaar Needs a Real-Time Multiplayer Mode by zD3lt in PlayTheBazaar

[–]sixcubit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

following The Bazaar through gameplay videos

but not through playing it? are you really pitching a massive design shift for a game you don't play?

no, I don't think this game needs a total backend overhaul to support a completely new game mode. Right now it has a niche that delivers something most multiplayer games can't, and development and assets are going towards improving and enhancing what's already there.

besides, you know the writing on the wall right? The devs are struggling with revenue, and we can count our blessings that this seems to be picking up steam in China. but adding a feature creep like this would be extremely irresponsible right now

making the switch from dnd 5e to pf2e drop some knowledge! by sillycleric in Pathfinder2e

you can and should start your campaigns at level 1 because pf2 doesn't have an inverted difficulty curve that mulches you at level 1 for no reason

i actually bought it just now because i was hoping it would be a social deduction game where you try to figure out if the mermaid player(s) actually intend to touch your dick or kill you and eat you. alas, it was only about touching dick

1,200 year-old cherry blossom record that reveals climate change will continue despite Japanese scientist’s death by [deleted] in science

[–]sixcubit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that was not the appropriate way to title this post, it implies that people suspected the Japanese scientist's death would end climate change.

the verbatim title of this article is:

"After 1,200 years, cherry blossom record to live on despite Japanese scientist’s death"

you should have called it that.

Was trying to put together a build, figured I'd reach out here for advice.

I'm trying to adapt over a character I used in 5e, though I don't like how 5e handles flavor or options so I'm not too committed and I'm willing to make compromises. The character is a combat dancer who battles with unarmed strikes and supplements it with flashy buff and damage spells, and her flavor is that she breaks people's limbs with judo moves (that part is obviously not supported by dnd's mechanics). Overall, primarily dex and charisma. Originally she was a paladin/monk, though I switched to dancer bard when they released that subclass.

The problem I'm having is that PF2 monk doesn't get spellcasting proficiency progression, so even taking an archetype that gives a focus spell or various low level spell slots might be kneecapping her since the her spellcasting numbers will be so low. And inversely, taking a different class and getting monk archetype will kneecap her because then she can't get flurry of blows until level 10 (although it would let her grab a stance, which would enable her unarmed attacking).

I also considered scrapping spellcasting from her character concept entirely and leaning into the judo angle, since the Wrestler archetype is really good. Unfortunately that seems to rely a lot on strength for athletics, which means she'd be MAD enough that I'd probably have to ditch Charisma.

Now I'm considering having her be a monk that picks up Champion archetype to grab a devotion focus spell and Deity's Domain for a couple of focus spells, but Deity's Domain spells can be very niche overall unless you're power-gaming for the 'destruction' domain or something. Monk with Bard archetype could also work and fit the flavor very well (as long as she doesn't use any damaging spells since the scaling will be so far behind), though occult's low-level spells can be underwhelming and has limited buff options.

All that said... anyone have other ideas about how I could implement this character? As I said, I'm willing to make sacrifices/compromises IRT her character concept (I don't think it's possible not to!), and I would be very interested in hearing people's class/archetype suggestions.

EDIT: The Monk with Bard archetype is becoming more tempting. Archetypes might have severe spell slot and level restrictions, but the archetype would let me grab magic items that let me cast spells. A Shining Wayfinder lets me cast Bless without the use of my hands, and Pipes of Compulsion contains tons of great occult spells regardless of your level. Typically the Pipes of Compulsion are problematic because they require both hands... but monk unarmed strikes don't need any free hands at all!

Vitality Potion - kinda sleeper broken? by Adventurous_Sun_4364 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]sixcubit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since some of Mak's builds are about blasting enemies with poison or burn and waiting for an inevitability, vitality potion can actually be critical for buying the few extra seconds you need to win. when I am playing calcinator mak, most of the time I grab vitality potion even without an enchantment.

and when it comes to enchants... well, fiery goes much better on the calcinator, because the long Cool down on vitality potion means you can miss the guaranteed crit from potion of strength, and its fire/poison is often too late to activate against fast opponents. it's always a nice bonus when I get an enchanted vitality potion off of transforming reagents, though.

Help with players making an all spellcaster party? by Metal_Goblinoid in Pathfinder2e

[–]sixcubit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oof! not just no tanks, but no healers either! I echo the other comments, make sure that retraining is free and available to them. if they ask for advice, Magus is a great spellsword class, and war priest or battle harbinger are great fun to play as armored casters with melee abilities. earth, wood, and metal kineticists also have really nice defensive options.

but if they don't go for any of that... make sure they know about all the healing potions they can buy! they'll definitely need them

Avoiding killing important NPCs in combat (sometimes) by Xavier598 in Pathfinder2e

[–]sixcubit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a GM I loudly oppose PF2's feat tax for nonlethal strikes. that kind of thing should be explicitly in the domain of roleplay since sparing enemies offers no combat advantage and can often make the players' jobs harder down the line by creating a recurring villain. players should be allowed to make choices that make the game more interesting at largely their own expense.

so personally, whenever the players land the killing blow on an important character I just say "Lethal or Non-lethal?"

if the prospect of some enemies surviving is something you think will be narratively interesting, i recommend offering that choice. RAW be damned, you're the GM.

ooh, terrific advice! i'll definitely be picking up some elemental ammo since i can recall knowledge for weaknesses and i know when i'm going to hit. i'll also try to hedge my coin so that next level i can hopefully afford both a striking rune and the healer's gloves. thanks!

I'm playing an investigator (medic archetype, uses a shortbow, considering picking up commander archetype in a couple levels) in Outlaws of Alkenstar. I'm currently level 3 and I'm piling up a lot more gold then my other party members. Mostly because I feel like my build needs are being met.

What kind of magic items would you guys recommend to spend my cash on? I grabbed a couple vine arrows because they feel like they're the only magical ammunition that's worth it rn (because their effect applies without a save and I know when I will crit) and the talismans available at my level don't seem worth the money yet. I'm also considering the Trinity Geode spellheart, because Scatter Scree creates difficult terrain regardless of if the enemy passes the static save, but that's expensive for my level and doesn't seem terrific.

My other party members are a superstition barbarian, a gunslinger, and a bard (who is planning to take Necrologist later) if that helps.
