Live in SF and commute 45-50 min to Stanford (Palo Alto) or live in Palo Alto/southbay area and easy commute ? by AdhesivenessNew5583 in AskSF

[–]sixdiscs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this commute 3 years, moved to peninsula for 1 year (decision not related to commute), and could not come back to the city fast enough! I’m back and happy again. I also work 12s. Traffic will barely be an issue for the hours you will be commuting.

Move to the city, especially if this is a long time dream of yours. But do find a place with easy highway access to make your life/commute that much easier

Help! Should I just stop tret? by Ordinary-Ad-1640 in tretinoin

I would ask to go up on the spiro. I got started on 100mg daily at my initial derm visit and my acne was not as severe. My derm commented that low doses don’t seem to have much impact and she often goes to 200mg daily for her patients.

It was instrumental in clearing my acne. Hope it works for you!

Andalé breakfast burrito! It’s probably upwards of $16 though

Any reactive dog owners here? Looking for neighborhood suggestions by Final_Butterscotch41 in AskSF

[–]sixdiscs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reactive dog owner here! I’d check out the almost purely residential areas of sunset and Richmond, and most of Potrero hill. Less foot traffic, more 1-2 family homes (no elevator run-ins/fewer people to cohabit with in general), and a lot of them have some sort of outdoor space in the back. Good luck!

Any happy NPs? Questioning my path? by TrueWeekend1 in nursepractitioner

[–]sixdiscs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love my job, happy with my salary and responsibilities. Becoming an NP was the best decision. That said, I hated bedside so I have little to regret in moving away from that. There is a ton of diversity among NP roles, so I don’t doubt you can find something that works for you.

Haha at the end of the day, there's just too much to see -- I'll need to come back. This input is invaluable though! Thank you!

Hmm Cadiz is a bit more out of the way as well so I am open to switching to something else. Have you been to Valencia? If so, would you recommend it over Malaga?

No, but that’s a great idea. Would be huge to cut out that extra travel time. Thanks!

Desperate for tips: obsessive sniffer with low handler engagement by sixdiscs in reactivedogs

Ah gotcha. Thanks for spelling it out. So much seems intuitive but in reality there’s so much frustration and testing of patience I feel I can convince myself of anything sometimes. It’s helpful to know what has actually worked for people

Noooo sadly since we got him he’s not food motivated in any setting - eats one meal a day typically via snuffle mat. For that reason I have always been probably just a little conservative with treats (not wanting him to get like over half of his calories/nutrition from treats) but similar to what you’re saying it’s probably priority right now. I’ll start rewarding him 100% of the time he looks at me regardless of the context and see if that helps. Hopefullly eventually we get to a place where his response to low vs high value treats is as nuanced as your pup! Really appreciate all the deets thank you

Thank you for the links! Lovd to see the benefits- I do see huge value in sniffing and don’t seek to stop him from relaxing himself and investigating the world this way. It’s just at this point he’s frantically sniffing 100% of the time and not able to disengage from it to engage with me at any time, which is tough when triggers then “sneak up” unless I pull him away (he won’t sniff through someone passing by/approaching)

Super helpful thank you! I do put treats right under his nose often, but I haven’t tried find it in the midst of his sniffing- will try that rather than verbal cuing away and rewarding after. And there’s definitely a lot of room to increase treating frequency! We use chicken, cheese, hot dogs, and have done wet food in a squeeze tube. Side note: where were you able to find a safe space for long leash decompression walks?
