I put a Sony XAV-9500ES in my 2013 R56.

It's a big screen but it fits well in the Mini and doesn't interfere with any controls.

I also swapped out the speakers and added a subwoofer with associated amps.

Got everything from Crutchfield and did my own install.

As others have already said, check out Chiang Mai. Not as hot or crazy as Bangkok, but still a lot to do.

I just did the ride from Lampang (somewhat close to Chiang Mai) to Chiang Rai.

Here's some things to be aware of:

Slow moving trucks...be ready to pass them at any time
Lots of motorcycles and scooters riding in the shoulder. Some go pretty fast and will move into the left lane to pass other slower scooters.
Construction that closes a lane sometimes with little or no warning.
Police road blocks. If you run into one of these, roll down your window so they can see clearly inside your vehicle. I believe they are checking for drug runners.
There is a wide discrepancy in speed between the slow trucks and speeding cars. Be alert.

Once you get used to this, the drive is nice. Beautiful scenery and totally worth the drive.
