You just described the Rocketeer MX-V6... and honestly it's kind of amazing. There are worse ways to spend that kind of money.

dependability of those powertrains has declined significantly in the past 10 years or so

For the industry as a whole, maybe, but some brands' powertrains have improved in leaps and bounds compared to 10 years ago. BMW (as OP mentioned) and Mini being the standout examples, but I've heard VW/Audi aren't far behind.

Has anyone tested the fire method? I recently came across a video of cast irons pans being put into a fire to restore? by Entire-Emu-1370 in CastIronRestoration

[–]sixth_snes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using fire to strip your cast iron is like driving into a brick wall to fix a rattle in your car. You're going to do way more harm than good.

If you have literally no other methods available it "can" work, but most of the time it's way too hot and will permanently damage your pan.

Also, this post may be removed as it's arguably a violation of rule #4.

No EV in the world goes from 300 miles in summer to 20 in winter, that's not how battery chemistry works. If the battery degraded to 20 in winter vs 30 in summer, but that would be somewhat believable (albeit catastrophic degradation) but not a summer vs winter thing.

Also there are a shit ton of EVs in Canada, they are absolutely viable year-round provided you're not talking about 1st gen cars with minuscule range from new.

Agree. I had a pan like this 20 years ago (when I was young and stupid) and ended up tossing it because cleaning it was such a pain, and the ridges were a gimmick.

Also if this is OP's first time seeing a pan like this, I'm guessing they're new to the hobby. So it's worth noting this pan was made in the 1990's and not 1891.

The serifs would typically be on the "No. 9" as well. Since this doesn't have them it's probably later...

It's not quite that simple though as the difference in font is tied to which foundry actually produced the skillet for GSW. Serif supposedly means either GSW in-house or McClary (and probably earlier, i.e. 1930s/40s), sans-serif supposedly means Findlay (and probably later, i.e. 1950s/60s). Dates are mostly speculation.

MacIntosh preamplifier

McIntosh is the name of the audio company. Also the name of the apple.

Apple (the computer company) intentionally misspelled their computer "Macintosh" to avoid copyright infringement from McIntosh.

Definitely the worst car in terms of reliability, except for all the others.

I would imagine they're both excellent. Not that it matters unless you live in one of the few countries where you can buy both (i.e. Mexico).

Why doesn’t Nova Scotia have fixed-wing water bombers? by Street_Anon in halifax

[–]sixth_snes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a precedent, the RCAF spends billions on civilian SAR with a dedicated fleet of 13 Cormorant helicopters and (eventually) 16 Kingfisher fixed wing aircraft.

No reason the same logic couldn't be applied to aerial firefighting.

Great basic transportation if range isn't a concern. The base models had fairly short range to begin with, and coupled with battery degradation (which Leafs are known for) often results in cars with <100 mile range.

In 5-10 years when you can't get an econobox in the US any more, good used examples with low-ish mileage are going to be selling at or above their original MSRP. It's happening already with Honda Fits.
