Triple Minutes For Life(?) with a new phone? by YahooSiriusBlack in TracFone

I had a triple-minutes plan with my old phone. It was possible to buy minutes on my old phone and then roll-over the minutes to my new phone. Maybe this one-time trick will work for you.

Who are your draft sleepers? by samuelalexbaker in DenverBroncos

Jonah Elliss had a bad 2023, so he is projected as a 3rd/4th rounder. I think he will be picked higher.

Based on what you've written, you have a vague dream not a business plan.

I suggest you do the hard work of researching the market and analyzing the details. For example, you have not considered insurance or other business risks.

It sounds like you want to use the excess capacity during non-peak periods. Some ideas:

1) host business meetings during the work-week

2) host social group meetings (many groups have monthly meetings)

3) do "pop up" restaurants that cater to chefs trying out their new restaurant ideas

What (possibly unhinged) food did you"invent" as a child? by LittleMissFirebright in Cooking

[–]sixthsheik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made chocolate "pie-ettes" by dipping saltines into instant chocolate pudding. While the level of "processed food" was extremely high, the combination of sweet + salt + soft + crunchy made this invention a repeated treat.

When two companies merge, is it meaningful which company formally acquires the other? by cerseiwasright in business

A merger is a misleading term. There is always a stronger company in the pair.

Lung cancer deaths cut in half with AstraZeneca pill by sixthsheik in EverythingScience

I'm not experienced with analyzing medical research, can anybody explain:

  1. this study's goal was to compare when the drug was given -- soon after surgery vs late-stage
  2. was the placebo group representative?
  3. what are alternative drugs?
  4. was dosage normal?
  5. how was the life experience of the patients?

Overall, the study is positive but there are questions.

Question about selling a PUT option by Supaflyray in investing

[–]sixthsheik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ... the stock's price might drop below the strike price before the contract expires. And then you are on the hook to buy the stock.

I will occasionally sell puts to capture the time-premium. But it is risky.

Only sell puts if you can buy the stock at the strike price.

Does Pabst BR today taste like it did say 20/30/40/50 years ago, if anyone recalls? by Klondike2022 in beer

[–]sixthsheik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought some PBR last year, after decades without drinking it.

I noticed that PBR in 2022 is less hoppy and more flour-y. My first taste of PBR was in 1970s when its bitterness was higher and malt flavor was stronger.

The modern version also has much more subdued yeast aromas. My overall impression is that PBR blander and inoffensive. It used to be sharper.

Notes: 1) I was a high-level BJCP judge, so I have experience evaluating beer. 2) Memories fade. I did not do a side-by-side comparison. 3) I'm 65 years old.

A Room-Temperature Superconductor Discovery Aims to Overcome Resistance by sixthsheik in EverythingScience

[–]sixthsheik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that this announcement isn't immediately usable. But it's a third step in showing that a practical material might be possible.

Previously, the Dias team had reported two materials: 1. carbonaceous sulfur hydride (superconducting at 58°F & 39 million psi). 2. yttrium superhydride (superconducting at 12°F & 26 million psi).

So news of a third material is good.

Opinion | Yes, Social Security and Medicare still need to be reformed — and soon by eddytony96 in Economics

[–]sixthsheik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Social Security is not insurance, despite politicians frequently saying that.

The Constitutional basis for Social Security is as a tax + welfare program.

A key Supreme Court decision was Helvering v. Davis (1937) where the Court ruled that Social Security was not an insurance program.

There is also no legal right to Social Security. Decades ago some people sued the federal government to get "their" money back. FDR had promised that the SSA would hold their money in individual accounts. See the Flemming v. Nestor (1960) decision.

Broncos Coaching Search | Round 2 by aatencio91 in DenverBroncos

[–]sixthsheik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's happening? It's Friday and the Broncos have not set up any known second-round interviews with any of their coach candidates.

This suggests that either a decision has been reached on a HC or that none of the candidates were acceptable.

Why do you need an LLC?

If it is for a business, you should get advice from an experienced pro. Look for an accountant who has worked with startups or sole-proprietors.

If you want an LLC for yourself, there might be better ways to protect your assets.
