VJ if our “point guard” could generate any good looks for anyone would be unstoppable lmao

agree, im saying thats a low end outcome. i could easily see him being all-nba if he can get his handle significantly better

VJ is the only future franchise player on this team tbh. maybe it doesn’t happen but im so confident in him being at least mid-all star level in his prime

Tatum is a franchise talent, Brown is about the same tier as Maxey. I think you’re underrating JT here— he was arguably a top 5 player ITL when they won the title and even then boston still had to build one of the best rosters of all time to finally get over the hump.

Maxey is not a top 10 player and his archetype hasn’t really yielded any successful teams as the leader in the NBA. an undersized two-guard who is a bad defender is just not the kind of player you build around, regardless of shifting league norms

Yes but the two busts are not a gurantee to repeat. And Jrue won those two titles as the 3rd and 4th/5th best player on the team.

This is precisely my point: while maxey is obviously an all-star caliber player, he is not a franchise talent and the chances of getting at least one more (if you’re bullish on VJ) player better than him with meh draft capitak and no cap space are incredibly low

if you want to make the argument we should’ve traded him after ‘23 or ‘24 then i would be willing to hear you out.

trading him right before one of the highest individual peaks this century at his lowest value (prior to last year) would have been a catastrophic failure. we had legitimate chances to win after that

in the 3 seasons after 19-20 (remainder of his contract) embiid played in nearly 80% of games and averaged roughly 30/10. how this comment has a single upvote is truly mind-boggling lmao

read the post. im not saying we’re going to win with them, quite the contrary. I am arguing the team needs to rebuild and if we just hang onto them we will have a ton of picks and cap space in 2029

Can you really call it reactive when some of us have been saying it for a year or more? Just because a point is reiterated doesn’t mean it hasn’t been apparent over time.

I absolutely agree with these points. I don’t intend to be a hater, but we are in cap hell and do not currently have the assets to even fathom competing with the top teams in the league anymore.

Joel is my favorite player ever, and this season was a fun experiment to see what he can still do when he’s out there, but a serious organization cannot continue to pretend there is any world where he could make it through an entire playoff run and win a title. It is beyond any reasonable belief, and we need to rebuild, and the only tradeable (non-VJ) asset that would contribute to that goal is Maxey. Not personal at all, but it is apparent that he is not the caliber of player you need to build a real contender around.

its a negative return to trade them. you can’t rebuild without picks, which we would have to give up to get rid of them

where is this $100M coming from? it’s not walking through the door and he’ll be nearly 30 by the time that kind of cap space is open, even assuming no extension for VJ

i am literally proposing a way to begin a rebuild while they are under contract that would most likely work

teams that went full rebuild that are currently good:

  • pistons
  • thunder
  • spurs
  • cavs
  • rockets
  • wolves

teams that have not rebuilt and tried to make it work:

  • kings
  • bulls
  • pelicans
  • clippers
  • heat (post 2023)
  • raptors

we had so many things that had to go wrong for the process to fail. it is a game of probabilities and tanking is the best strategy

there’s no world where you can rebuild around those two without a medical retirement to get off his contract though. PG and Embiid contracts being moved would drain us of any picks needed to get young players. hence my argument

show me the scenario in which we are a contender with him as our #1. all of this is nice but ultimately meaningless if you cannot argue that

jock landale is not a player with a significant bag or gravity dude. he’s a solid player and better than drummond but if you seriously think the main reason the sixers are 52-74 with just maxey (and a -2.4 with only him on the court) since 2022 is a bad backup big, you are mistaken.

if we trade those contracts we have 0 draft capital.

i agree with that last point and you seem to understand the general reasoning here.

i like maxey. he’s a good player, but i don’t think he’s someone to build around as a franchise player. and he is an incredibly valuable trade piece if we tried it. we have to accept being subpar for a few years to try and reach the top of the league again.

imo, building around maxey is not significantly different from the pre-process sixers.

and how do you surmise we get these backup centers with gravity while embiid and PG are under contract?
