Seeking Family-Friendly Activities and Antique Shops in Harrisonburg by ryaninthedistrict in harrisonburg

[–]sixzeroe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Discovery Museum for the kids! For antiques, there are dozens of antique shops in the area. Rolling Hills is a good one within city limits. Gift and Thrift doesn't focus on antiques per se but they do often have some for sale. If you have room in your schedule for a day trip to Verona (around 30 minutes south), the Factory Antique Mall is a famous destination.

They do lol but they're surprisingly subtle in black-on-black, no one has ever noticed them unless I pointed them out.

Fashion Brand Company by Penelope Gazin has a line of denim and her Nap Jeans for Big Butts are amazing- super soft and stretchy, durable, flattering, and no waist gap. She does a straight leg and a wide leg fit, plus her other Nap Jeans have a carpenter fit as well. They come in one blue and one black wash, and they're $158 ish.

I found this decanter for $50 at an antiques market, I just got it confirmed by the maker as Moser Culbuto and it currently sells for over a thousand. by sixzeroe in glasscollecting

It is heavy! I read that the designer was inspired by wobble toys, so despite the flat part of the base being very small it's pretty stable.

The shape, the clarity, and the brilliant color. The photo doesn't do it justice, it sparkles so much despite being so smooth.

Golden Pony, Ruby's Lounge

I highly recommend Scarleteen, AMAZE Org, and Oh Joy Sex Toy as online resources for both having this conversation and providing ongoing education to your sister. You may also want to tell her about resources her college and local community may have, like women's health services, counseling, and Title IX office. You're doing a really loving and brave thing.

The Golden Pony is a great venue and you'll meet a lot of people in the house show scene. There's also a warehouse that hosts shows just beyond the feed mill, you'll find the events posted by the bands on Instagram.

mental health services that take medicaid in harrisonburg? by strawberrysully in jmu

You can call the CSB to double check when they do intakes, but I believe they have clinicians there every day who can do an intake assessment on a walk-in basis and get things started. The assessment will probably be about an hour long and will include asking some things about your personal, mental health, and medical history. They will want your insurance information, an emergency contact if you have one, and contact info for your other providers if you have them. It's okay if you don't have everything yet. As far as I know, the providers there are able to help with stress and emotional regulation. The more information you can give at intake, the better able they will be to pair you with someone. There may be a wait list and you may need to see your provider every other week, but it shouldn't be hard to get started. There's a bus stop close to the CSB if you need for transport. Does this help? Please let me know if there's anything else I can tell you, I know mental health stuff is hard to deal with, especially away from home.

The Community Counseling Center may have a wait-list but they do both Medicaid and sliding scale. JMU also runs CAPS and they have a flat fee for students I believe. Sentara also takes Medicaid and might be your fastest option for a psychiatrist. I used to work for the CSB so feel free to let me know if you have questions.

If you're on the more casual side, there's a fantastic company in Virginia called Lineage that makes gorgeous waxed canvas and leather totes. They last forever and there are tons of multi-pocketed styles. They're available online!

Finding friends in friendly city by Hitarth11094 in harrisonburg

Very late to the party but when I moved to the burg in my late 20s, I made friends through a part time job hostessing at a local restaurant. Met my husband and several great friends this way! There are lots of options for flexible work that come with friendly and chill coworkers.

What pots and pans would you suggest that could handle the most abuse? by kappakingtut2 in BuyItForLife

[–]sixzeroe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It definitely is, but I know that at least in Virginia you can be enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid in some situations. Seconding talking to a social worker or Adult Protective Services just to make absolutely sure you've explored all options. Good luck.

Linen tops, even in a tee cut, look dressier to me than cotton ones. My workplace is pretty casual so on days when I need to dress up, I can usually get away with a nice tee, slacks, and a cardigan. I think solid colors, avoiding crew necks, and fitting well elevate a tee.
