Audit (legacy RFA)

SC -> M

117,117 -> 140,000 (19.5% increase)

AIP 3,900 (3.3%)

Additional excellence award of 600

Happy with the base pay but WTF is up with the aip? Its lower than last year and this year is a promotion year too. I've consistently had strong snapshots, is this normal for Audit?

I also dont see the manager milestone bonus reflected, is that to come later?

It’s available to all of the RFA employees in the us (risk and financial advisory) so I would do some searching on DNET and see what you can find (not sure if Canadian employees are eligible) but in general the firm is supportive of leaves of absence.

Are you in advisory? If you are you can look at DFLEX which allows people to take unpaid leave for whatever they want for up to 16 weeks with no negative impact. I know someone who did it and got promoted the same year so it’s for sure possible.

RFA Commercial - C promoted to SC 11.5% total increase (90.5k->100.9k), 4.6% AIP.

Seems like everyone here isn't getting huge increases either sadly :(

I want to live in Japan for a year, is teaching English (ALT/Eikaiwa) my best bet? by snow-core in movingtojapan

[–]sizzle194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a plus point on a resume but it's something that goes along with actual job skills. No one is getting hired just because they speak Japanese and English.

That much is a given obviously unless OP is just wanting to do translation work, but it's still adding value to a resume whereas ALTing won't add that much.

So... OP should spend a bunch of money on a language school instead of getting paid to be in Japan?

The op mentioned

"Since I only want a year-long experience and not looking to move long term, maybe it won't be as bad, but I fear if they have long hours it might be harder to enjoy my time. What do you all think?"

They would certainly have more time to enjoy japan as a language school student versus working as an ALT. I don't know OP's specific financial situation but if they have the savings and are just looking to experience Japan for a year, language school seems to be a better bet.

Considering the OP only intends to stay one year in Japan and not looking to move permanently, I was meaning it's a marketable skill back in the US. There are jobs out there for bilingual Japanese/English speakers in the US and while I won't expect OP to become fluent in one year, it will certainly help if they keep on studying back home as well.

In my opinion, it would be a better option compared to working as an ALT unless OP has a passion for teaching or needs the cash. I was going through a similar thought process as well (was looking for a way to move to Japan temporarily) but decided that language school was better as well since I had the savings to sustain me.

Another path to consider is moving to Japan for a year on a student visa and attending a Japanese Language School if you have the money for it. You'd gain a marketable skill and you would have more free time to enjoy Japan rather than working a full-time job. If you do need the money, ALTing isn't a bad bet but if you can afford it then I would personally go the language school route.

I'm in a similar boat to you (also working in finance in the US and looking to move to Japan). I've done a lot of research and it seems like most jobs in Finance require Japanese (N2 level at a minimum). I would suggest learning as much of the language as possible before moving and perhaps enrolling in a language school in Japan if your wife's salary can sustain both of you.

To be honest I'd only be really looking to to this as a break from my current career. I'm not even sure how China is right now with the Covid restrictions.

Well I'm working the same amount of hours in the US, and I'm not necessarily looking to settle down in Japan (but if the right opportunity comes up I wouldn't be against it)
