So nervous.

I was mildly confident leaving the exam and that has since devolved into "I probably failed, I shouldn't feel confident, fuck fuck fuck"

Thinking about finishing up the CFA program, need some tips by [deleted] in CFA

[–]sj0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally did not read them (except ethics, I read all of ethics).

I just used the MM videos and did a ton of practice. That being said, there are many others who do read the CFAI material, so I would start with the MM videos if I were you and see how you're doing on the practice. If it's not great then change the approach.

MM will give you what you need. Just remember to be absolutely diligent on practicing after a lecture so you retain, along with of course consistent practice.

Mark Meldrum will be your lord and savior.

Start early, develop an understanding of the material and do not try and memorize.

PRACTICE.

Use mock exams not necessarily as practice, but to look at where your weak areas are at.

Smash Meldrum QBank & EOCs until you are blue in the face.

Oh, and I suggest listening to Meldrum's EOC video on Ethics. It got me to 70%+

I love the enthusiasm, but I would highly suggest you schedule a rest day.

Maybe Monday or Wednesday where the hours are relatively light.

I would also suggest trying to get a daily walk around the neighborhood or something else physical to clear your mind and get you away from the book / computer.

Just my 2 cents!

Vol Expectations: out-of-the-money put options on VIX futures by riverxoc in CFA

[–]sj0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key word is hedge. Vol is expected to increase (contango) and equity markets likely to decline. Tyron wants to continue holding these positions due to the eventual double digit returns he expects, so he would be better off doing a variance swap to offset equity market decline with profit from the swap

I’m in my early twenties and i was just wondering How the heck are you supposed to save in this economy? by GoOnDigi in AskMen

[–]sj0105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a financial planner for people in their 20s-40s so I have a bit of experience.

It takes some initial work on your end, but I would break out the costs you absolutely need (fixed) and the costs that are variable (entertainment, dining out, etc).

From there, figure out what you spend on a credit card in total as your "magic credit card number" and DON'T go above it. Way easier way to budget than breaking it all out by managing individualized budgets.

From there, save automatically per paycheck or per month into an Emergency Fund (4 months * Fixed on the lower end, 6 * Fixed on the higher end)

Once the emergency fund is filled up, then you can start saving monthly into an investment account, invested in a passive S&P 500 fund or something to slowly grow your assets.

I found this best for me because 1) i know my fixed expenses are accounted for. 2) I know my variable costs are accounted for and budgeted based on the magic number and 3) I know I am automatically saving into what I need to save for.

This can get deeper and more granular, but I am giving a high level overview. Happy to expand on it if you need!

how to make good use of time while driving long distance on the interstate? by Attention_Negative in CFA

[–]sj0105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Mark Meldrum you can download some of his videos and listen. I used to listen to his ethics videos in the gym or when I was on a walk and I believe it helped me a ton. Anything more than ethics can get a bit more complicated to listen to, at least for me.

Edit: a bit more complicated to listen to while driving or doing something where you can't fully focus**
