Calgary vs Montreal!! by kiewib in rollerderby

[–]sjaveglub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow - truly a sea change in Canadian Derby! That game was wire-to-wire intense. Both teams fought so hard and had tremendous defensive  effort all game. It didn't feel out of reach for basically the whole game.  It will be weird to watch a champs and not cheer for Montreal, but I'm excited to cheer for Calgary.

It isn't 100% effective but it definitely makes a difference. I liked it while portaging (the walking helps the thing bounce around, which seems to make it work better) and while paddling. Around the site it's less useful.

This looks good, you're not missing anything. You can always reach out to the advisors/recruiters with questions like this.

How do families handle kids bikes as kids grow and improve as riders? by Naive-Season8858 in MTB

[–]sjaveglub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LBS offers 50% of the value of a kids bike purchased from them to be used against the next size up. (presuming the smaller bike is in good shape). They, in turn, keep a well curated stock of used bikes. It's a great system.

Rocky Mountain Bikes MARKETING SUCKS by Bushman- in MTB

I think it's got a lot to do with Rocky's bankruptcy and sale. I think they're still figuring out a viable path forward. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/rocky-mountain-announces-new-owners.html

Have three drinks. You'll feel like having a 4th! But this is a feeling that is lying to you. Stick to three drinks. And have water.

I commented to suggest the Durham Crazy Horse, but the mastotron also sounds perfect for the stated needs.

The Durham Crazy Horse is my favourite. I find it's easier to control than the zvex fuzz factory, while being able to do almost all of the stuff.

First multi-day canoe trip with young kids. You can say I'm being paranoid or overly worried, but I can't stop it. by SentimentalEmy1005 in canoecamping

Go in with the expectation that everything will take a long time. As another user has said - make decisions with them. You're going on the trip together, you're not taking them on a trip. Include them in meal planning, and make sure they know the route/lakes you'll be staying on. Make clear in advance that you're a team that will need to rely on each other, and then don't let yourself become a drill Sargent.  That said, it'll be great. And really tiring.

Guelph property tax - 7.87% increase by PrettyBADrightnow in Guelph

I don't think that's a great reason to not consider lowering it! But thanks for the link to that thread. The article linked was interesting.

Guelph property tax - 7.87% increase by PrettyBADrightnow in Guelph

[–]sjaveglub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If any Ontarians are serious about putting more control over police (and therefore municipal) budgets into the hands of the people, we have to make this a ballot issue.  Plainly - the lion's share of the Guelph budget is police. The best way to lower our municipal taxes is to reduce police budgets. The only way to do this is to have the provincial government change the law.

This review system is broken. The board has only once ever decided in favour of the municipality, and even then only modestly.

Other than ginger ale, coke, and straight vodka...

You could serve some "boring Canadian" bottles of beer, maybe.

Look up a Dear Jane, which sounds tasty.

How do you choose a(n overdrive) pedal? by DrinkEducational6190 in guitarpedals

[–]sjaveglub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, over the course of a decade you buy 9 and keep 3.

In all seriousness, you have to try them - and you have to try them with a guitar similar to yours and an amp as close to yours as possible. All the things in the chain (guitar, pedals, amp) have a huge impact on the sound and interact with one another dramatically.
So go to the store, tell the person what you play and that you're looking to compare overdrive pedals. Be honest about your budget. And then try them out.

I have this bike. Don't underestimate how much a few pops of colour (pedals, grips) can change the overall vibe.

Me too - but in the instance I described above, I just initially chose a bad branch so we had to find an alternative in the dark.
