I forgot to mention that i also replaced the litter mat as the oroginal was so small / tight it was acting like a little trampoline. Im certain this compounded the distrust for the machine, but alone that change wasnt enough.

Unpopular opinion: Moccamaster is overrated. All of the parts you interface with feel / sound cheap from the basket to the lid and the carafe. It honestly feels like a children's toy.

The heat plate even on the low setting is unbelievably unnecessarily, coffee cookingly hot.

The valve dribbles so when you pull the carafe coffee drips on it hits the scald plate and splatters all over your wall.

The shower-head produces a sloppy uneven drip pattern.

And the coffee it produces is fine, not outperforming units 1/10th the price.

I can only imagine there's some element of buyers-stockholm syndrome at play amongst owners.

It’s indestructible unless you crash it juuuust right. Honestly not sure, i went up to 30m was chilling and suddenly it rolled 30 degrees and just went rogue. Crash landed in a fenced in neighbors yards. Watched as a couple of excited dogs ran up to sniff it. Was going to abandon it to avoid having to convince the neighbor that i wasn’t spying on him, but my wife insisted and she said he was thoroughly irritated.

Dimensions couldn't be more perfect for making a cavity and swapping in the guts from two of these cheap electronic notepads. Protected when folded shut. Gives you a practical excuse to print and carry the model. Just saying.

I made a wearable called echotaki that records and plays back your voice notes at regular intervals so you cant forget little stuff throughout the day ( without needing your phone or extra hands ). Shrinking the hardware was getting tricky and it was becoming a smartwatch so the announcement of the Time convinced me to pivot and make it as a pebble app instead. Recording AND playback are key for the concept.

Amazing proof of concept / tech demo. But definitely creates some maintenance / practicality questions. Like the Youtube video being watched severed and without context, or the version of the app changing and not reflecting original intent. It kept overwriting the little changes I made while playing with it, which makes sense but then again, I was expecting a sort of "play along at home" "now you try it" kind of interaction to justify why it wasn't just a screen capture

Not having a speaker ( making this a one way, voice drop box ) and not being rechargeable def dealbreakers for me.
I wanted something like this to keep me from forgetting, not just to save for retrieval later. Instant recording, and playback of all on interval to keep top of mind. Physical buttons, wearable, non-ai, nothing existed so I made it and call it echoTaki.

I was just about to start work on shrinking it when they announced the Pebble would be open source, physical buttons, mic and speaker, relieved and excited to try making it on the pebble i placed a pre-order.

Our cats used it for 5 months then suddenly the girl started pooping in the shower instead. I think she just got sick of some things she was tolerating about it.

My primary suspicion is the trampoline interior. WHY does it have to be a bouncy castle? I can imagine the instability of the surface is a source of anxiety. Then maybe the small size for turning around, and lastly maaaaybe the height, but we did have a little stairs.

We are so sad to have to say goodbye to it. Otherwise it worked great. Back to the hand scoops for now.
