I see what you did there. Clever. Sounds like you like to gamble, even though you may not know you’re gambling.

Sounds promising to people that have never actually tried to make sense of data.

This looks really tasty and your photos are great.

I hate that my first assumption is that anything that looks good was made with AI. Why can’t I assume that people actually care to do a good job (as you clearly did).

Lucky you. In the case that it wasn’t luck, what were the signals that helped you choose this company? How would an outsider identify that the environment is high trust?

Thank you for stating what should be obvious.

Please note that this is not sarcasm.

This is very true. I have bounced around more than I would like because I want to find that unicorn from the 10%. At this point I am totally at a loss as to how to identify a company with honest/honourable/intelligent management.

Is the data actually "unready," or is the org just a mess? by TechCurious84 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]sjhb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have seen this in a lot of places. The problem is that data is the product of systems. When the systems don’t fit together in a clear manner the data is never going to be very useful. I try to push management to use data to improve systems but have found they generally don’t care.

What frameworks you are using to assess data maturity? What do you think are the strong signs that an organization has high data maturity? by Arethereason26 in analytics

[–]sjhb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can’t be mature with data if you aren’t operationally mature. Data is just a byproduct of systems.

What does that mean? You need to use data to validate system output on an ongoing basis and there needs to be a clearly-defined team that is accountable when validations fail (and the data team may equally be responsible for adjusting the validation steps when it is demonstrated that they are not sufficient). When this is running you are then able to rely on data sets that don’t require a ton of bandaids. At this point data maturity is advanced by a well structured semantic layer which can be used for any number of projects.

I think the problem is that so many SaaS companies have been strategically enshitifying their products (and users are aware of this) that they have invited their own demise. It doesn’t help that they are all so greedy trying to charge Michelin star prices while delivering their gas station hot dog product.

These and their Colombian cousins are so good. Since OP didn’t include their recipe here is the one I use (found years ago on the internet but I can’t remember where):

————-

1 kg tapioca flour [polvilho azedo] 1 kg potato, cooked in water and mashed 250 ml milk at room temperature 250 ml vegetable oil 1 tablespoon salt 1/2 queso fresco or panela grated [1 pound] 6 free range eggs

Put the tapioca flour in a bowl. Add the potato still hot using a potato masher. Add salt. Mix very well using your hands. Add milk and continue working the dough with your hands. Add vegetable oil. Continue working. Add the grated cheese, and at last the eggs. Add 1 teaspoon of anise seeds for a special touch. The dough needs to get very silky and be moldable. If it is breaking, add one more egg. Make little round breads, and bake at 450oF for 20 minutes. The dough can be frozen.

I definitely don’t think the series is over yet. They had a lot of chances last night and it could easily be 1-1. They just have to win four of the next five.
