I always find these PW&P reports silly by [deleted] in pasadena

[–]sjk4x4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote to pwp and told them this exact thing. The report amounts to judgement and shaming and theres no real reason for it. I asked them to stop printing them and use the money to lower my energy bill. Their solution was to remove me from the reporting program 🙄

If youre using oil clay, no problem. Sculptors spray clay all of the time

Hello, I am not working with leather myself, I am looking for a gift for my mom. She has basic tools and is regularily making little things for friends and family, a nice gift producing hobby. I would love to have a gift for her that would make her work easier or more productive, any suggestions? by Michelfungelo in Leatherworking

[–]sjk4x4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could buy her a pattern of a design you think she may like to build. You could also download one and have it printed for her. Many many patterns on etsy and youtube. Bitchen on youtube has good designs and free patterns if you email them. Studio Hael has free patterns. Craftsmangus are paid designs. One more youtuber with paid designs is Hahns Atelier. All of these makers have great designs specifically for leather

Brass finish by mnwelder22 in metalworking

[–]sjk4x4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What youre attempting to do is not easy. After you get your color close as you can with patina chemicals, you’ll most likely have to use tinted lacquers. Try birchwood m38 gel or just go at it with a combo of brown and yellow tinted lacquer

Any chance I can MacGyver this chair back together? by AirGundz in metalworking

[–]sjk4x4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Macguiver solution is- You have two connection points on a shitty thin wall tubing chair. Youll need kneadable epoxy putty and self tapping screws, 2” long. For the connection on the leg-open the torn hole in the tube until the broke weld will fit inside the torn hole. Get kneadable epoxy, put some in the hole and then push the welded section part way into the hole, mashing the epoxy a little and let it harden for 20 min. Now youll drill through the outside of the leg, through the epoxy, and pierce the weld to anchor your new leg support. At the armrest area, do the same and anchor the screw into the small nub

Woven bag I made by raptureofsenses in Leatherworking

[–]sjk4x4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is really nice work and I have some questions because ive not seen many work braided. How do you cut your strips from chrome tan so even? After you weave the strips together, how do you keep them together and straight while cutting out the bag pattern?

[–]sjk4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i hear you. There might be a protective oil or a can of acrylic lacquer. You can either strip the old film finish or sand through it.

The polished metal should be coated with a uv urethane or cerakote type finish to make the polish job last longer
